sevan
I'm a newbie, a greenhorn, a freshmen, a....nancy?So, trials riders usually wear brain buckets, and some wear fancy shin and knee guards. I've been bitten by the pedal recoil while mountain biking: so I want to wear the shinguards, not to be a shin-grabbing-momma's boy. Does anybody have an opinion on what to look for in shin/knee pads? Where to aquire them? Thanks in advance, Evan
Skoze
I officially like you I wear 661 Veggie shin guards, not too heavy, do the job nicely.A few more "freeridey" types wear dianese shin and knee guards, look really good imo, but are expensive. As long as it saves you from shin digs you'll be fine MattEDIT: Not sure on where to get them over there, could try internet shops? Dan x)
yeah smart guy!!you dont want the pedals eating your shins any time soon anyway.661 veggies are good.. they are sort of squashy aswell so the pedals wont slide up you leg and anhialae your kneecaps or if you still dont feel comfy with those you could go for a full shin and kneww combo pad?661 also do one.look on ebay shops.. brand new around £30 - 40 for a decent set of pads.Good luck and have fun Dan. forteh
Neoprene shinguards can get really, really smeggy pretty quickly and they dont half make your legs sweat Keep them washed and they will last you ages although they will get to a point when washing them wont help - a bit like gloves. They also wrap around so they help protect the inside of your legs from the cranks/bashguard/frame I dont wear mine anymore, I hardly slip the pedals these days and even if I do I just grin and bear it - think Ive got used to the pain and/or theres no nerves left in my shins to feel anything

greenmeansgo
I got a pair of UGP shin pads off ebay for £10. They have a plastic insert that limits shin damage from bear trap pedals - nice. You want something hard in there to stop pins/cages biting through the fabric of the pad when you slip a pedal. As for brands/ where to buy from I have little experience other than the ones I bought.
Sean___John
Hi i would recommend 661 veggie shin pads, like others have said they do the job and don't weigh that much, and they don't get in your way like some other shin pads.I decided to buy a pair after this happened! about a year ago

Mikee
I got fed up of bashing my shins on my pedals so i got a some try-all shinguards. They are very, very confortable and give all the shin protection you need but they do get very hot under there. Not the best for ventalation. They are on Tartybikes is you wanna have a look at them. Thats where i got mine and they arent too expensive either.
Jitters
I decided to buy a pair after this happened! about a year ago Jeeezis, man! You could hide spare change in those wounds! Those are some goodies there.I use the 661s for FR/DH. Light and work great, but yeah they are stinky even though I was them quite frequently.Cheaper than a trip to the doc. James Shields
my mate bought himself some 'planet-x' shin and knee pads i believe they were and he wears the frequently, his cousin also got some at the same time. we went on a ride and his cousin didnt want to wear them so i did, but his chain skipped and he tore his shins. they are well worth the investment as the picture above shows, and i believe they got theirs for cheap.james
