adz_rolls
i am putting together a bike (04 echo pure) and was wondering if i need a chain tensioner or not? i would rather not have one to be honest. ive got a kmc single 1/8" single speed chain, will this suffice without a tensioner? will my chain snap? thoughts anyone? ogre
chain tentioners always a good idea, get a 74kingz jobby. you waste energy with a slack chain + the die sooner 'cause they get pulled taught every time you do stuff, it's just adding to the excessive stress they get.. Daniel C
not really sure on that one but my m8 has gone through no end of kmc chains and now hes running gussets halflink wich he can run with no tensioner.
Dan@Trials-uk
It depends what gear ratio your running, I had a Pitbull couple years ago, and I ran 18T - 16T and used a KMC and it was perfect tension with out a tensioner. If you was to do this, I would suggest to use a new chain rather then a old stretched chain. Otherwise simply use a tensioner, if you got a old mech lying around, just convert that into a SS tensioner:)Thanks,
Alex Dark
just use a tensioner if needed..if the chains slack...it needs tension, if not..leave it

cai
I was thinking of doing the same thing, as my mech hanger has just snapped! And carn't be arsed to buy a new one I'm going for a 74kings tensioner now though, as there require no mech hanger

Ben John-Hynes
you are ben ,tensioners are so much better than mechs, theres no dodgey bodges unlike mechs .steveI didn't have to do anything to my mech to use it as a SS tensioner,So it's actually not a bodge! JoNnY__Mc
I have a bolt running through my mech into my hub so there is no mech hanger required. It can take loads of abuse, can be lined up easy to get good chain allignment and has really good tension!I wouldn't run a chain on a stock without a tensioner, have done it before and the chain stretched and snapped really quick.
