Once you hit 17 then yes do whatever. Rules are rules, no point in messing with them. Plus, if the police see any mods on it then they can do you for that too I think.The Department of Transport currently (November 2003) classifies all powered two-wheeled vehicles as either mopeds or motorcycles. monty221pr Posted April 9, 2008 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 derbi senda and gilera smt for crossers, but ive heard there unrealible, same with rs, fast bikes but some can be fine some can be a bag of shitive got a piaggio nrg (ped)and it does me fine 50mph on the flat plenty enough but obviosly if you want speed gears is the way to go.also dt 50's rare but good, and also theres a 50cc derbi manual, looks like a rs but is faster i think, forget its name.Derbi gpr , they also do a gpr nude which is a strret fighter version (I have one )does about 55 on flat iv had 66mph out of it though Never had any real problems with it and they do a factory kit for de restriction so its piss to get em going well.Sam. He was made to split his bike up and sell it for spares. Im pretty sure he was bollocked for it but I dont know exactly what happend to him. But hes got a Rs125 now hes 17 so I don't think hes completely banned.Nah they didnt ban him, he had to get it restricted within 2 weeks but crashed, panicked and took the bike to bits. Nothing got put on his licence except 3 points and that was for using his horn after 11.30.How did they find out he had a 70cc kit on?they didnt. they got him because he was doing 70 down a main road at 3am. Bloody lush it is, i didn't want to get a brand new bike but my Dad got a good deal and swapped a bike etc. If i was you i would get a Derbi Senda, easily get it to do 65. You could probably get a good conditioned one for around £1000-£1400. Mopeds are easy but if your like me and motorbike trials you will get very bored! Did my 50cc standard scooter like a total kipper, he said it did 60 but i was way to far behind to see it but yea good solid bike, was ragged by his brother before him and lasted him 2 years, and for an old 2 stroke him getting 2 years out of it without a re-build is pretty impressive. I got a shit 50 scooter, was great fun, crashed it 8 times on and off road, totally battered it, tryed jumping up onto the saddle, standing wheelies.... all went tits up but hey who gives a f**k when you brought it for 180quid? The Aprilia rs50's are fast, but so unreliable, mates have had endless problems with them.Old dt50's, built like tanks. Gilera things, can't remember the model but look like suzuki tr50's, they are sweet but not very reliable. Will edit when I speak to my mate.ive got a race tuned aprillia rs50 does 85 goes like poo of a shovel !most of my mates have the new derbi senders, the drd pros and the sm's all really nice bikes woudl recomend one of those or a rs50, but rember soo as you start tuning it...it gets less reiliable !danny Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Posted April 10, 2008 Report Share Posted April 10, 2008 I think some people are missing the point.He wants to use the bike for getting to college which is 25 miles away, so yes it has to be fast, but tuning an rs 50 (or any 50 for that matter.) means it'll be an unreliable piece of junk. which is not good when you've got to use it 3 days a week at 8 in the morning in the freezing cold. Captain Scarlet Posted April 10, 2008 Report Share Posted April 10, 2008 I think the idea of initially restricting a ped to 30mph so it is safe for a 16 year old is probably the most stupid thing ever.I understand that the rider is less likely to have accidents due to his own fault by not being able to do stupid speeds, but 30mph is not fast enough to keep up with other vehicles, and is likely to create accidents in cars overtaking.I've recently put a depost down on a Yamaha Aerox, something twist and go to get me used to the road before moving onto gears or a 125.1 previous owner, 1800km, pretty much immaculate, and the dealer is derestricting it for me.I don't see why everyone knocks peds and 50's, its probably one of the easiest and cheapest ways of getting about, and are just generally fun.
