Ben John-Hynes
BB7Less maintenence! But hope mono minis or mono trials are both good,With the right size rotor!
Vee
yeh i know the bb7 are real good but i just prefer hydraulic, looks better imo hahaare there any main differences in the mono mini and mono trials?
Andeee
Try out a avid bb7 with a xtr lever they work amazing even though its mechanically cable but a load of people on the forum use themThe main differences between all hope brakes is the pistons inside them so the more pistons enables more braking performance. But the mono mini will do good for trials use. Any hydraulic disc will do even a shimano deore which are good value for money which are like £69.99 and are really powerful. At the end of the day its down to personal preferance and your budget.
maxwellduryea
bump, im in the same situation. hate the feel of cable brakes, but need something that isnt always failing (i had the mini mono, and worked great till one day it stopped working. i bled it, replaced ALL seals, new rotor, new pads...still sucked.)im weary of getting the Hope Trials after this, but hear they are much better than the plain mono mini. can anyone confirm this?i really dont want to use the bb7's... craigjames
the mono trials has a bigger 24mm pistons so has more power than the standard mono mini. the formula the one works with the same idea, using 24mm pistons at the calliper and is considered a very powerful brake. Alex Dark
the mono trials is probably the best hydro trials brake....or the bb7 with a 220mm hope floating rotor
esfrost
I have used bb7 on the front on my mod, it was 160mm, and it was more than just powerful, now i have a 2007 hope mono trial 160 on the front, it has the same power, but with tons of modulation... Much better than my old bb7.

Id go with a hope trials (as i did and its great)Personaly i really don't like the mono trial as it feels way to spongey. I have had both the mini and the trial and i like the mono mini much better. If you use a 208 rotor it will be plenty strong enough. I had a 182mm floting rotor and it was a beast!
timmorley
in my opinion hope brakes are rubbish. you get the odd ones which are great no maintinance and really powerfull. but most of them arnt. to be honest your better off staying away from hole brakes.i know what you mean about mechanical disks they just dont feel right.so, i would recomend the avid juicy 7. it is uber powerful, light, easy to set up, reliable and it has a tpa for setting up the leaver to your preference.heres a link: Juicy 7cheerstim
