Sorebums
HiI'm a newbie to the site and to purpose built trials bikes - can I introduce myself and scab a couple of bits of advice, please?I used to ride trials-style on an old 27inch wheel beast back in the late 70's - around Adle Woods in Leeds - anyone ride there now? I've been on the dark side (riding motorbikes) since, including a trip to the end of the Earth and back. Try riding across Mongolia, two-up on road tyres! Have a look at:www.sorebums.netI swear it's not a porn site - LOL.Now I'm looking to return to the fun of riding pedal-powered trials, and drag my young kids into it too. Can you point me in the right direction? How do I get to ride a few bikes to see what suits me? I live in Manchester. What should I buy? Where from?I weigh 90+kilos, so I guess I'll need something strong (with strong brakes).Any pointers? Thanks in advance.Simon Edited April 5, 2008 by Sorebums

Berrybike
Hi mate,Welcome to the forum. Im from manchester too, there's a pretty small scene here from what i can ascertain. However if you want to try my zoo pitbull 07 (pic below) your welcome to meet me around manchester sometime.I often go riding with Oakland who rides a 20" zoo mod, so you could try riding 20" and 26" too see what would suit you? We gnerally meet at Altrincham train sttion by the ice rink as I live in Northeden, and theres some nice varied riding there. How does that sound?Alex Edited April 6, 2008 by Berrybike
Alex Dark
try and ride as many bikes as you can before you decide to buy something...im guessing something like a long stock would be about right ? ( 1090 wheelbase ) as for brakes...get a magura hs33 on the rear and either a disc or magura up front
Sorebums
FolksThanks for the warm welcome and the useful advice. I'm working my way into the lingo and technology - a fast learning curve.Berrybike,Fab offer to meet up and very easy to do as I live in Sale! As you and some of the other guys have said, I need to ride a few different bikes to see what suits, and to see if I can live without a saddle! I'm guessing that a 26" wheel bike is favourite, as I'm 6ft tall and have never really gotten on with BMX sized bikes. When do you meet up?I'll come down on my old push iron and have a ride round with you all. Thanks again.SimonHi mate,Welcome to the forum. banashapan
Hello, and welcome to Trials-Forum!I used to ride at Adle woods too! Back in my dirt riding days, last time I went was about a couple of years ago, there's nothing trials-style to ride really, just some good sized dirt jumps - but they got demolished by the council, and I've heard they've been built up again.Trials on a 27" !? Are you crazy ?!

Sorebums
berrybike, oaklandSorry for the delay - my wife had a baby at 4am yesterday, so I've been a bit busy. That's the reason for not being able to come out to play yesterday. I've an interview at 10am on Thursday (tomorrow), so how about sometime after 2pm on Thursday afternoon or sometime on Sunday? Any time until it gets dark.I really appreciate your offers.Simon Edited April 9, 2008 by Sorebums

robster
Hi I am guessing you will be about as old as I am (jp). (mid to late 30's) We have a trial this weekend at Addingham moorside in sunny Silsden, me and a couple of old blokes started to ride again last year after 20 years lay off to have kids, get jobs, wives, houses, cars and so on. We have a great laugh falling off and trying to beat each other, we are not the best but the competition is fierce........Come along and meet us if you like, you can try out a couple of bikes at the comp, if you are as old as me and no doubt as heavy and stiff I would be tempted to go for a more old school ride that has a higher front end and a little shorter, I have tried all sorts and they kill me do the new long low high bb bikes that are about now.Any how welcome to the forum mind how you go and I look forward to meeting and battleing it out with you one day.. P S get some shinnies and some radox cos its gonna hurt John

Are you crazy ?!BanashapanYes 27 inch - all we had back then unless you wanted a Raleigh Grifter. Used to find rocks to mount at the Alwoodley end (near the Old Leos ground), steep banks to climb round the old air-raid shelter and all sorts of natty obstacles and the old viaduct in Adle woods on the way down to Meanwood Beck.Simon
robster
Yep 27" all the way, mine was an old racer, swapped the drop bars for some cow horns put a tracking cog on it and some skinny knobblies and away you go.Back in the day JP

(:also welcome from me Na, i started on stock but moved to mod, im not small at 6 foot and 12ish stone but just prefer mod. I think it depends on your back ground, i started on BMX then moved into trials so the 20inch bunny hop spin style suits me! But for any old school rider id say 24-26" is the best bet by far.
