I Want To Raise My Car

I want my 205 1.4 to become more off-roady so im ready for buthiers among other things so I want to raise it. Not by alot mind, talking at most an inch, but the car needs it anyway because the tyres are scraping on the bodywork :(

The back is on torsion bars, and the front is coiled with (i think) machpherson struts. Just wanting to know if anyone can give advice on if its possible to do at home, or if not what cost Im looking at

Also, anyone know where I can buy a replacement carburettor: solex 34 pbisa 16. Im running a bit rich at the moment and its probably due for replacement

Thanks

yea the fronts coiled, theres a few ways of raising it, but there all a bit of a bodge, can space the top mounts out with washers if the bolts are long enough.other option is to get the springs off a derv 205 or the like so theyll be the same height, but higher rated, so will take more force to compress, so will sit slightly higher as standard, and will dive less under weight.

but by far the cheapest and easiest way of doing it, is to either get some new tyres, with a different profile. or just get some bigger wheels from a scrappy with tyres on, scrappies tend to want £20 for an alloy with tyres, or £10 with a steel with tyres, dont go and get a set of alloys from the same scrapyard as theyll want more, but get some dirt common 306 xsi or the like alloys, and get 2 from different scrappies, or on different days, then once your done with them, flog them. shouldnt lose much more than £40 on the set, which is less than the cost of 2 springs, and a lot easier to fit.

The bottom of the tyre yes theres a seperate compartmant for that <_< More PSI i think your answer should be......

I'm pretty sure it was some kind of sarcastic joke?

Is the car lowered at the moment then or standard height? I thought 205's sat fairly high anyway. you could do some arch work and save having to raise it, unless you're going for that classic 80's rally car look.

The only way i've heard of people raising them up is on some small 4x4's they use a spacing block between the spring and the axle, but that only works if you have a non-independent rear axle.

I'm guessing the only way to get it up is to get some taller springs and torsion bars. or perhaps just get some stiffer springs and lose some weight. (strip it out)

it's sounds costly to me.

Ah well, my whit is wasted on this place sometimes. Sorry i've not productively contributed to this thread :P

You made me smile, so you have :)

Adam, do you want to raise it so you can have a go next year? Chai, Baxter and Waddy are banned from my car :P

Thanks for the replies guys, stripping out sounds like an idea actually :)
