cox.
SMOOTH. get your self some plaz pads, whatever ones work great on a smooth rim, use some tar. Sorted no need for re-grinds, ect. x
NileBrownâ„¢
Yeah boy, go for grind, I absolutely hate smooth rims now, exept for one set up and that rock greens on a smooth try-all. But seriously you will get immense braking power if you go for grind as your pads will suit it more. By the way, what colour are your koxx bloxx? (please say brown)
Alex@Flawless Bikes
Smooth is better unless you ride when its wet then your pretty much screwed!
cai
Get a light grind, that way your rim will last longer!
Andrew Smith
get a grind and keep them pads i am running them on a grind and they are the best pad i have used i am riding hearn bay on sunday and if you arnt really comfident or dont know how to grind your wheel if you dont live that far in hearn bay i would be happy to help you grind your wheel for you if you like if you own a grinder
tobiasmaxximus
Go for a light or medium grind, works far better even in the wet weather.
Ben John-Hynes
Smooth,Summer's coming,A grind will just wear down your pads fasterAnd a smooth rim with the right pads in dry weather is IMMENSE!Ben
angrybeaver23
always grind your rims if you want increased performance, sure tar works well but if you ride street i always find that people respect it much more and give you less hassle if your not destroying there hearing everytime you use your brakes, just my take on trying to not make joe public hate me for riding my bike near them. always had much more respect also if a dont use my bashguard but thats another issue. But make sure its a light grind else your rim really wont last long it doesnt take much pressure with the grinder to go straight through, is wise to practice on an old rim first for sure! Andrew Smith
Smooth,Summer's coming,A grind will just wear down your pads fasterAnd a smooth rim with the right pads in dry weather is IMMENSE! Benare you joking he is using koxx yellows i have had mine for over a year and they were second hand when i got them the person who had them before me always had them on very harsh fresh grinds for 2 years so my pads are 3 YEARS OLD! and i always run a harsh grind and they still have about 3.5/4mm left mine have been in cnc'd backings since i got them because 1 of the plastic backings were snapped but koxx yellows on harsh grinds are the most beastlyist sounding pads going in all weather conditions they sound like a air horn
Control-Trials
It all depends on what kind of brake you like. I've found when running a smooth rim, the brake feel's 'spongy' at the lever and not as bitey as when you use a grind. But all does entirely depend on the pads and rim surface.A few reccomendations.Plazmatic Crms in CNC backings on a sharp grind.Koxx Browns on a harsh grind.Zoo Pads on a smooth rim or dead grind.Or ideally: Pad Review Thread.Tells you everything about brake set up's you need to know.
