MadManMike
Right this is hard to explain without pics so sorry if I make no sense...I have a DMR revolver hub that is 20mm bolt though, or what I assume is 200mm Bolt through (On each side there is a bolt that you tighten rather than a quick release skewer). The wheel is held on by these two bolts...I tightened it the other day as it felt loose, but after doing that I noticed metal shavings where they had dug into the forks - I thought that'd be ok, because i'd done it nice and tight. But when I got on the bike the bolts came loose instantly, tightened them again and they came loose instantly again. The only thing I can think of is that there is something missing - washers or something??They won't stay tight and I can't ride it with less than hand-tight bolts! Jamie_Neal
Sounds like the thread may have stripped in the bolts aren't staying tight.
mafu26
if its a 20mm bolt through hub it'll look like this:you can dmr revolver 20mm bolt through but a standard dmr revolver comes without a quick release and 2 M5 bolts that keep the wheel in. either way it sounds like you've stripped the threads but i find that hard to believe cos the bolt should screw quite far into the hub to stop this, unless there shorter bolts your using? post a pic if you want cos i dunno exactly what you mean... but dmr should be able to sort you out with replacement parts if you ring them. MadManMike
Ok well it's not 20mm bolt through then.It was two tiny little allen bolts with a black metal thing on the end (Hard to explain and I can't get pics at the moment)Anyway, the bolts sheared through the black metal things and totally ruined it - to everyone that saw it their first reaction was "How the hell was that ever gonna keep a wheel in safely?".I have to say it's the most stupid system I've ever seen and I didn't over tighten it (I tightened it by hand until there was a tiny bit of resistance). It just wouldn't stop turning and I don't mean with loads of force either...Anyway, I've put a different wheel on for now because it's a pain in the arse and I think I'll change the hub in the end...standard dmr revolver comes without a quick release and 2 M5 bolts that keep the wheel in.That's the one... the bolts on the front are much smaller than the back though - the back seems to be fine - the front wouldn't even hold a cardboard wheel on.I'm using a quick release skewer on Halo Combat now... nice one on using pointless shite bolts DMR
NVWOCI WVS
it's a 3/8" axle, my mate has one on the front of his bike. it is hollow, so you can use a normal skwer in them, but there is a 6mm thread cut into the inside of the axle so you can use these bolts. you may have stripped a bit of this thread out? r chewed the end of the hub or fork?you could try just using a qr skewer? or an allen key skewer? would do the job

If quick release is so easy and fast, why change it to something that crap?
Alex Dark
because its supposedly more secure.....
MadManMike
because its supposedly more secure.....Hmm... cuts through washers, grinds away at your forks and still comes loose. I'd rather be less secure
monkeyseemonkeydo
Am I right in saying that the hub you're on about has standard 'fun bolts' like 99.9% of trials hubs?...They do the job perfectly well on all my bikes over the last 5+ years! mafu26
yeah thats the same hub i've got on the front and its been fine... not really sure how you've managed to bust it? any pics?

Honestly, I never over tightened it - as soon as I tightened it and got on it clicked and the bolts were loose again. It's not ruined threads inside either, they are fine...See the silver washer thing on the end of the bolts? The bolts gradually ate through them because when the wheel came loose I tightened it again, gradually eating through to the point where you could put the washer over the bolt lolI never knew they were so popular! They are crap! (Or, mine was)
JonMack
They're what Chris King use on their HD axles, they're also what Hope, BT, Try All, Echo, Monty, etc. use on their hubs, so they're not that bad.

They fell apart - wonder what would have happened if I'd over tightened! Honestly, it was like stepping on a coke can - just crushed! I'm not exactly super-tough either
