Brake Boosters

Recommended Posts

Theres not one for mod or stock it can be for either,

Why there is 4-bolt and 2-bolt is that if you frame flexs but not alot you use a 2-bolt, if your frame felxs loads you use 4-bolt, i would always go for 4-bolt as it offers alot more strength and stiffness of the frame.

Don't fit a brake booster to a t-rex, especially if your running a grind. The frame is stiff enough already and fitting a booster actually makes the brake worse. When i used to use a booster on my frame no pads would work properly, they wroe down faster, they'd always slip and make no noise at all which isn't great for your confidence. Literally as soon as i took the booster off mid-ride last summer the same pads were loud as hell and held properly, and they seemed to stop wearing down at all so they lasted a hell of a lot longer.

I know your a knowledge legend but i have to disagree my brakes slipped all the time in wet(ish) weather and i bought the booster because i didn't like the look of the frame being pushed out every time i pulled the lever in but after fitting a booster the original red magura pads stuck like crazy glue I'm also running a worn grind on my trex but like you said no noise but personally i hate loud brakes

Its not just my opinion, theres a lot of people who have found the same. With an already stiff frame, fitting a booster generally reduces pad life and hold. I have a theory as to why but its hard to explain and i'm not actually certain of it being the correct reason behind it. When i changed from a base ta26 (flexy frame) to a t-rex with 4 bolts i fitted a booster and couldn't get any pads to work at all, plazzies, cousts, joypads, koxx greens/yellows, rock blues etc. They would all slip when gapping on a flat floor which sometimes caused the bike to loop out. Removing a booster fixed all the problems i was hhaving with it.

I don't know whether its the fact your running the kool stops as they're a very hard pad already, but if you try it with other pads i'd be very suprised if you didn't find the same issues.

I have to agree with you there, today i put the first grind on my new echo rim, fitted my heatsink 4-bolt booster, and my plaz crms were cack, no bite, no hold, no noise, cleaned the rim, still nothing, i thought what the hell is going on, came in and looked on tf and found this topic, looked at what krisboats had first said and went and took my booster of my 06 python, went out the front of my house and the pads were s**t hot, all the bite you want, hold and loud as fook!
