Going Back To College / Uni

Right, my qualifications are out of date and nobody wants me.

So, I'm thinking of going back to college or Uni but can't afford it.

I'm 23, almost 24, have been out of college for 6 years but want to go back - what kind of grant / loan could I get? do loans go on your current credit rating or is it different for students?

Where's the best internet site for advice? I've tried a few different Uni / colleges and they are not helpful at all :(

Help!

Fist off, best of luck matey!!

I think your LEA (Local Education Authority) could help. They were extremely helpful when filling out my loan form. I'm sure they must have some info for you. They're usually located in the council offices.

Best of luck again!

Neil

Check out www.studentfinancedirect.co.uk

Generally speaking, you'll get about 3 and a half grand Maintainance, 3 grand Tutition fee, and anything else is done by means.

If you won't be working, you could apply for a whole number of things including Grants.

One figure I remember from when I was looking at uni and loans, was at best, you can get about 10k a year, with about 4 grand of that in grants, not needing to be repaid... but I could be making that up.

My mate is doing the same, he is 26 and he gets £30 a week. It's not much but you could work part time at the same time, normally college is 3 days a week.

Are you living with the parents are on your own? Maybe doing a night course would be a better option? Then you could work full time.

just go work dude, theres plenty of jobs out there for people with no qualifications, i started on £7.89 p/h with no qualifications or anything.

and at 24 u should be already working shouldnt you?!

bit late for qualifications ent it?

I've been working since 17, but I'm looking at jobs around £28k now but my qualifications are out of date.

No it's not "bit late" for qualifications - my brother is 27 and just doing a degree in graphic design due to being stuck in a shit marriage until now.

It's never too late and I want a decent job thanks, plus I want to learn new things.
