cwbashaw
I'm switching from Maguras to V brakes. I'm looking at the Avid single digit 7 Levers with an ultimate brake, When I was about to order the SD7's I saw the Avid Single Digit SL levers and was wondering if they would actually perform any better or if they are just lighter weight? I really don't care about weight but if they work better I wouldn't mind spending the extra money.
Alex Dark
the sd7 levers i think are pretty much the best, i dont think the single digit sl levers are any better performance wise to be honest
Luke Rainbird
SD7s are great levers, The SLs are a touch lighter if that's your bag, but in performance terms should be the sameSome people prefer the feel of XTR levers mind, so may be worth a try with different setups to find out what works for youIf you have big bucks, Ultimate levers are apparently awesome, but I wouldn't really want any more from my SD7s (also run with Ultimate arms )
cwbashaw
ThanksI'm glad i didn't spend the extra then. I was hoping they would perform better but it looks like you're just paying for the magnesium body and the ti hardware. Saving 10 Grams to me isn't worth paying double the price. N.Wood
I like the feel of the XTR levers over the Avids.I also find the Avids tend to become wobbly at the pivot pretty quickly.I have a 2008 XT lever infront of me, the lever blade is pretty much the same shape as the older XTRs and looks to be fairly high quality. Gilman
The SD7 are really nice levers and you won't regret it. Good choice.Though I personally would have looked for XTR or XT levers. But thats my personal opinion.
cwbashaw
I also find the Avids tend to become wobbly at the pivot pretty quickly. That's a good point I didn't think of that. I used to hate when my levers got sloppy on my XC bikes.Do you think the Shimano XT or XTR's are any better for this?
philgresty
when v brakes are set up properly they can work better than maguras aswell as being lighter, i suggest avid, shimano xt arent bad either.also use plazmatics pads. they seem to work very well

Gilman
Remember with XT or XTR levers you have a allen wrench bolt to adjust the lever wobble and tension.I am not talking about the bolt for the reach but you have that one as well. cwbashaw
I just looked at the Dangerboy levers. They look really nice, but they'e way out of my budget right now.
