H D V From Moscow

I fixed the problem. For all Mac users, download something called Flip4Mac which is a plug-in for QT that allows it to play wmv files. It's available here.

Suppose I'd better give an opinion on the video. Basically to sum up I thought the riding, and the vid quality was mint, the editing to me seemed really tacky throughout and imo, negated the fact that you shot in HDV as it just made it look crap. Maybe it's just my style of editing, but I definately would have forgone most of effects, the text and the matteing etc and just had it nice and simple. Oh and the music was awful aswell.

Nice camera though, what codec are you using to export?

camera was sony hdr-hc1e

editing software is sony vegas pro 8.0

video effects - plugins from New Blue for sony vegas pro 8.0

really you think that the video is on HD?

you are wrong. you captured by firewire and firewire only capture SD image, not HD. moreover, the video is bad rendered, i recomend you to render it on 720x1280 and not on 1080.

by the way, the editing dont like so much, either the camera! dont move it!

even dough the ride was sick ;)

there is no way on the planet that this is SD ..... according to my pc its 720 high - which would look like blocky shit if it was SD? so dont really know what you mean .....

I agree with the second bit about not loving the editing but not moving the camera ??!?!! that will make for a pretty shit vid ....static shots are sooo dull ....

doesnt matter if the video file have 720 pixels or 1080. firewire only captures SD images with 720 blurry pixels. you only can get a clean image if you capture by a hdmi PCI card, which cost arround 400$

that is just plain wrong

look at the video .... SD = 720 *576 . If you upscaled that it would be blocky and horrible ... It IS HD... firewire is just a data transfer method, a digital one = lossless. there is no reason why you cannot capture a full res HD video by firewire (maybe not in realtime (i dont know ...)) or USB2... end of the day - its a digital file ....

Its 1280 * 720 = HD and it is not blurry ....

Same camera as mine (HVR-A1E) only without the XLR audio/DVCAM recording function as well as a few other odds and sods, good little camera though!

To be honest, I didn't like the video at all. Its great you're experimenting and hopefully it will give you the skills to use on other projects, but I don't think it worked too well for the riding clips you had to play with. Music sounded like it was from the Bourne Ultimatum OST or something haha!

i compressed my all videos with windows media encoder - so codec is windows media 9 :)

I think the bitrate must have been a bit too high as well as it was a little jerky, even with the great Flip4Mac that James mentioned.

insisting... its not HD!

mixmaker,as you can see on the menu of your camera (p.menu>conv i.link) 2 odds: DISABLE or ENABLE HDV->DV. if you know what it means, you can see that im right!

firewire is a transfer method but doesnt give you a real HD image! it seems but is not! a real HD video file is 3 times bigger and only can get it by HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) pci card as ive shown!
