You have to make sure your chain length is right so that the mech is able to sit against the bottom of your frame. Then use a small piece of gear cable and move it to the right place that you would want it.

I found that better than a gear cable, use a spoke.

Cut a spoke, near the threaded end, long enough to attach to the mech and hold it in place. You can then use a nipple on the bit of spoke for some fine tuning. worked a treat when I used to run a mech.

Best way to do it is to adjust the limit screws in to limit the travel of the mech, then if you find it hits the chainstay, prise the u shaped washer off the back, take out the spring and clamp tot he frame like that...this effectively fixes the mech in place and stops it swinging up.

Why ben? Just buy a decent tensioner for about £30?

As the lad above was saying though, if you want to use a mech, then you need to play with the little screws on the back that align the mech, and you may need longer ones.

Yeah thats right, drill one of the bolts on the back out to m6 tap it and run a longer bolt in to lock the mech.

'cause i don't want to spend £30 on something that can be imitated by a mech?!

Fair enough, but as soon as you land on a mech its going to bent and mess up your chain alignment. Whereas a decent tensioner is made to stay put and keep you riding if you land on it!

undo the bolts, take spring out, do back up

(Y)

Simply remove the C clip and then remove the spring form the Mech, and then put it back together with out the spring and bolt it back onto your bike:)

Words a treat, But if you fancy somthing neater/ lighter I would suggest a SS tensioner(Y)

Thanks

Dan
