PaRtZ
Moving into my own student house next year, need to sort out the internet and wondering if anyone knew of any super dooper ISP'S?Had a brief look around and found that a company called "be unlimited" offer an (up to) 24mb broadband at £22 a month. Theres a setup cost of £24 and unlimited download limit. Has anyone got any better or can advise me for/against them? Thanks EDIT: Forgot to say, we're looking for unlimited download with the fastest connection possible. Although willing to settle for a slower connection if the price is right Edited March 5, 2008 by PaRtZ
tomturd
Awaits snappel Be get really good reviews, as long as they can provide the service in your area.If they don't, As I always say, adsl24.co.uk or any enta.net reseller (google it) have served me well. There ARE limits, but they're specified, and pretty high (30gb peak, 300gb off peak - £20 a month, no min contract, no setup). Which is better IMO than others that are unlimited (ahem) bu have a 'fair use policy' where they probably wont let you download anywhere near that amount before they cap your line. Tony Harrison
Ha ha!Yeah, I'm totally happy with Be, no real problems at all. Also very impressed with their setup procedure, they keep you up to date with the order progress. My only issue was tech support was some Indian call centre who said nothing was wrong when I couldn't connect. An hour or so later I got an email apologising for the outage. Annoyed me that the call centre didn't know about it/say what was going on. Oh, and I only use the up to 8Mbit service from Be, which is £15 I think.Tom's advice is good though. Most importantly, avoid BT Broadband like the plague. Muel
Tiscali has been brilliant to us, but with one little flaw. They won't let us go.Let me go motherf**kers! I want better broadband!I might try for this Be stuff. The 8mb one.
Tomm
Don't you have to have a BT phone line for Be unlimited?I've been with NTL for 4 years, no complaints from me, and you don't need to pay extra for the phone line.
PaRtZ
Don't you have to have a BT phone line for Be unlimited?Yes I think so, I've not fully looking into the line rental part yet, but I think the girls will want a phone in the house so...meh their job Ha ha!Yeah, I'm totally happy with Be, no real problems at all. How much do you roughly download? because between us we're probably goign to torrent download about 7gb a month (maybe more) as well as web pages and Counterstrike etc I guess thats going to add up to quite a bit.....?Also tom, do you know roughly how much downloading will count as "breaking-the-fair-usage-policy"? I think thats our only worry at the moment....Thanks for the speedy replies though
munkee
On Be* forums there has been talks of around 20GB being downloaded by members without any fair usage policy. Infact Be staff have said they are yet to find anyone that they have had to put on their fair usage policy. I have been with them for 2 years now.. on their 24Mb thingy which has been reduced down to £18 from £24.. best decision i ever made. They are brilliant
Bondy
Also tom, do you know roughly how much downloading will count as "breaking-the-fair-usage-policy"? I think thats our only worry at the moment....Thanks for the speedy replies though I've been on ntl/virgin for ages, im currently on the 'Up to 20MB' service, during the prime time when people will be using the net i get around an average of about 1.7 mbits/s download speed, then other times its usually around 2-2.5mbits/s.This is with be downloading lots of stuff aswell, i usually download around quite a few gb's of data a week (for example this week ive done around 15gb)The only time we noticed the 'fair usage policy' really affecting us was when we went down to the 'up to 4mb' service, when our download speed was really cut down to around 100kb/s. Tomm
Yeah, as far as I know, NTL/Virgin don't stop your web access or anything, but they will throttle your connection during peak times.

Our line died once, for about a week, but thats cos my housemates were too lazy to ring up about it, even though they'd happily sit around complaining about their boredom. Token
Fast.co.uk are still the highest rated Broadband Provider for customer service and support.
Captain Scarlet
Do not go for Freeserve Wanadoo Orange, The name has changed so many times, and for a reason. It sucks. They advertise you can get 8mb, but when you enquire they tell you that you can only have 2 mb.Even worse, when you ring them up and tell them that they suck, they offer you upgrade to 8mb, when you've already been told you can't.I'm not even hitting 500kb, and my upload speed is better than my download speed apparently. Hendrix
Avoid BT, as said above. They're rubbish.
tomturd
Fast.co.uk are still the highest rated Broadband Provider for customer service and support.Only thing is you don't get very much bandwidth even with the highest most expensive package (100gb for £57 a month) - plus the setup fee. adsl24 (or any other enta;.net reseller) offer a total of 330gb for £20 a month, no setup fee (assuming you have a broadband enabled line already)According to this - http://www.ispreview.co.uk/fast is indeed at number 1. 'naims' is in at number 3, another enta.net reseller, offering 30gb peak/300gb offpeak. Titan is also enta. As is Aquiss, And idnet. And UKFSN. And adsl24. So 6 enta.net resellers in the top 10, all offering lots of bandwidth, and all pretty cheap. The only thing differing for each of those providers is the customer service I guess, as they are all in fact selling exactly the same broadband service. I've never had to phone up adsl24 so I wouldn't know how they are.I should be an enta reseller myself.
