Oright mate,

As yoou know i run a rear maggie and find it okay, but i want to try a rear v brake, but after riding bens koxx today with rear disc i was like, Jesus this thing rides smooth, holds really well as well

Yes mate Bens bike rode smooth with rear disc, but as you dont have disc mounts will you but the 4 bolt mount disc attacher thingy to try rear disc.

If you do i think you will have to empty your dad wallet for new rear hub

I run rear magura. I think my rear break is amazing. Standard bleed, Echo Pads, Echo Lever. :) (Soon to water bleed it)

I think i'd like to try both Disc and vee. It'd be good fun :D

Vee's Are super light :D

All have problems and advantages. Ill quickly list 2 pros and cons for each!

Magura:

Pro's:

Can bleed with literaly anything!

Instant bite!

Con's:

Water bleeds freeze

Could easily start leaking

Vee:

Pro's:

Dont freeze

Good modulation and hold!

Con's:

Need a good set of adaptors

Trials pad market is not as big, (but defo growing)

Disk:

Pro's:

Powerful with good modulation and bite

Con's:

Not many frames come with disk mounts

This is all based on the bikes ive riden etc, I don't really no much about disk's cause ive only ever ridden 2 double disk bikes. (both mod, and both to short :P)

magies just take the control to the top.

discs can just get in the way for side hopping.

v's harder to maintain.

They really don't. You can twat the rotor if you get it wrong, then you can bend it back with your fingers.

the real answer is what you are realy use to.

Mags, disks and v-s all have ups and downs but if u think about it they all come out at the same level.

Disks: Good, good power

good modulation

easy to set up

no spongey feeling when pulling the brakes

No Good, need to blead now and again

not every bike comes with disk mounts

exspensive to buy and maintain

can bend disk in an accident

Mags: Good,good power

good modulation

no spongey feeling when pulling the brakes

fairly easy to set up

No Good, can snag the hose and burst

not that good in the wet (smooth rim)

pretty exspencive

V-Brakes: Good,cheep to buy

easy to set up

easy to maintain

good stopping power

No Good, spongy feeling when braking

v- mounts not on much bikes anymore

so realy their is not much af a diference with them, i ride bikes with Disks, mags and V-brakes and they all perform well as a street/trials bike.

vees are shit because they arent on/off enough and too expensive

discs are far too easy to smash up

maggies are good

Single Maggie = £65

single vee=

SD7 arms = £28

SD7 lever = £11

shimano XTR cable set = £11

Grand total= £50

Vee's also modulate loads, good if you like doing manuals.

They have SUPERIOR hold back wards in comparison to maguras.

Where's the heatsink mounts and pads?

Mind you, for a maggy you need a booster, posh pads, metal tpa, braided hosing etc.

Alternatively, get a disc!

i have had both a v and a maggie, and i have to say my v is far better than my magura was, it has just as much power going forward as it does back (i think it differs for people that have a normal v, mine is an ultimate which has no play in it at all) also it is not harder to maintain i have had mine for 5 months now i am on my 2nd cable and not because the other snaped it just started to fray near the bolt, and i am still on the same set of fat pads (the best out there trust me) also i have no hastle at all if it needs to be adjusted i just undo 1 bolt and bobs your uncle or i could just adjust the lever??

and on top of that i never need to buy expensive pads again, all i need is 2 sets of fat pads and 2 cables every year which is dirt cheep.

on the other hand maguras can be awesome but still once you have some pad ware you need to keep pissing about with then all the time.

Same, i adjusted my phat pads yesterday so it was in line with the rim, and now my Vee has as much power going forwards as a Maggie does.
