mk1/2 escort or a mk1 golf. id steer clear of minis from previous exsperiance!

The major problem you are going to hit if you want some thing around the 70's is that they are going to be rust buckets and rust work is a right arse!

Id deffinately say mk1 golf, many online forums to find advice/healp/get ideas, they are also a lot cheaper than an escort!

Capri, as they're far too much fun when they're running well, and you could probably sell it on for a fair few pennies if it's done well, even though they're probably one of the more expensive projects going about.

A mini would also be a good starting point as well....Put an R1 engine in the back!

Mk1 Escort sounds tempting, I have seen afew of these done before. Hard to find one though, especially for a good price?

yes i know what you mean, i have wanted a mk1/2 escort due to them being RWD and cool, but they are way to exspensive in my eyes!

Thats why i suggested a mk1 golf, have many styling options with the choice of a big engine later down the libe if you really wanted!

You posted the same time as me but yes i understand your thoughts on the mini completely!

escort if you have the money, mk1 golf if not!

can I just point out that finding a decent mk 1 escort with not much rust for under 5K will be difficult even a mk2 is still pushing it.

mk1 golfs are easier to find but parts still cost a fair bit.

I think you've kind of contradicted your self in that last post by saying you want a british car then listing 5 none british cars.

escort is the one to do if you've got the money and the time. If not then maybe something BL or a golf

Edit: just remembered that cars are a bit cheaper down where you are so you might be able to find an escort but still it won't be cheap.

mk2 escort isnt rwd, id go for a mk1 but its serious money for a decent one.

get an fiesta xr2, i love them, and they look the nuts with a bit of work put in.

I am also interested in restoring, how did you guys get into it? how did you learn? i dont know nothing apart from the very basics of cars lol

you just have to take a risk and buy a car that needs restored and then you'll learn as you go along. or find some one who is restoring something and ask if you can help
