The Duck
Hi,Well - I've got a 'Dreytek 2800G' wireless router from my dad and i want to connect it to my current internet connection so i can broadcast wireless in my house (lol attempting to use technical termination).I have a speedtouch USB modem currently which i got free when i took out my broadband package (Demon), that all set up and works fine. The back of the modem has 2 leads (no spaces for more either) the USB lead and the little (american?) phone line lead. It looks like this I get the impression that its some pretty primitive shit, but what do i know.If anyone could do me/find a step by step guide to set it up, or just tell me if its possible i would be very grateful. Tomm
Ditch the modem and plug everything into the new router. It should be obvious but you'll probably need to read the router manual for setup.
Joey B
He doesn't have any of the documentation the router came with I had a play about with it last night and didn't have any luck with it. Would it be possible to have the router connected to the computer via a Ethernet cable and have the modem also running into the computer on its USB, then use the computer as a bridge between the two so the wireless network can still have internet access?????? Token
You can plug the router in via ethernet, but I'm almost certain it won't broadcast an internet signal wirelessly with the USB modem plugged in. You need to have the RJ cable plugged in from the Router to a Phone line. An before you set it up, you need to first of all use the ethernet cable (plug it into computer) an then configure the modem by logging in with the browser. I know for netgear routers you have to use "http://192.168.0.1" an then enter in your internet login details. Then once it's configured you can unplug the ethernet an go wireless. The IP address you need to use should be at the bottom of the Router itself an it should also have the Username and Password.

And don't ignore what I just said. Ditch the USB modem (Throw it in the bin where all USB modems should go), your router has a modem in it.Because I'm nice: http://www.support.draytek.co.uk/router_faq.htmlIt looks like an 'enterprise' router which means it's more advanced and a lot more complicated than your average home router. But it should work well if you can get it set up.
