N Roach
Hi there,I am thinking of taking a trip over to Hong Kong to stock up on the trials parts some time this year. Has anyone been to this shop? How much cheaper are the products? and do they speak some English? Thanks Nathan Edited February 26, 2008 by Koxx_Nath.C

tomturd
Would you be going there just to get biketrial bits? It cost me £400 for a 1 way flight from Beijing. I'd guess you'd be looking at £600 return if you book early, you'd have to buy a lot of stuff to end up saving money. If your going there for a trip anyway then it could offset your costs quite nicely though.Judging by the website they speak a bit of english, even if they don't you'll still be able to buy stuff. Make sure you haggle. My technique in china was to offer 10% of what they were asking for..

basher
Is that not taking the piss? Why, to many people are set in there ways and that if they see a price they pay it when in fact a seller will more than likely go down by quite abit. People when buying from tarty never think of asking for money off. When in fact i dont see why you cant tarty want to make money and only way is to sell things they won't like turning a seller away and would proberly come down in price to get a sale especially on expensive items or lots of items. Correct me if im wrong but shops look to make 60% mark up on what they buy so theres a big margin for bargining. If your really good at haggleing, then you would play shops off each other to get the best deal as they are all fighting ahainst each other and wont the sale.A good example is a programme on tele where a guy got a person a good deal on a guitar. The guitars where rrp at around 480 he managed to get him on for 319 with a free bag just by playing shops off each other and not backing down Edited February 26, 2008 by basher

But I hear £80 DOB frames and £60 Zhi Frames. I know of one person that has been but I would like to know if anyone one hear has been to this shop, what they thought about the prices? _Owen.
basher, i work in a bike shop, and the mark up on most of that stuff is normally about 35-40%, not 60%! I rekon a trip to Hong Kong would be sweet, but soely to buy trials parts might be a bit of a bad idea! You will need to bring a hell of alot of stuff back to make money. Remember import charges will most likely pull your pants down on large amounts of stuff aswell! However, i bet you would get stuff at about 70% less than we do over here! Simpson
basher, i work in a bike shop, and the mark up on most of that stuff is normally about 35-40%, not 60%!My old shop we used to buy ex mail order bikes, brought for 5quid, sold for 50, so thats a massive mark up!I think most bike shops would be over 35-40 though surley.... Remember online shops don't pay massive rent and labouring costsYou do realise they will post to you?I got quoted 120 for a DOB frame postedAnd i know people have used there services and been very happy with itSave a world the round journey to buy a f**king trials frame.... Egg Fried Rice
When i went last year in may, the shop didn't have an vast amount of parts but the chinese stuff like deng frames etc were dirt cheap! My Zhi Z2 frame cost me £80 and echo Hifi forks cost me £45 or something, zhi cranks were £25, echo headset was about £20 and some other prices that were cheap.Shippied it back over for around £20 which takes about 1 month to arrive on you doorstep.JK

Correct me if im wrong but shops look to make 60% mark up on what they buy so theres a big margin for bargining. It's a cultural thing too though. People in China/Africa/Middle East expect you to haggle and their prices are inflated accordingly. In this country it's very different. You don't go to Tesco and ask for a Cucumber at half price, do you? It just doesn't work like that.I've got a mate who gets Shimano stuff at trade price. He has the biggest possible trade discount (the same pricing band as CRC) so he gets 40-50% ish off the RRP. But many Shimano items on CRC are listed at 40% off, 30% off etc. This means they can only possibly make a couple of quid more than the trade price (it's often something like 9% profit) AND they have to post it, factor in overheads etc. Madness. The only way they can do that and make a profit is by having a turnover of millions of pounds - something which Tarty probably doesn't have! Egg Fried Rice
It's true tommIf you in Asia, haggle the feck outta them, they don't mind! they'd rather make SOME money then nothing at all.JK
