anzo
I'm just wondering about this. Basically the majority of NMC topics are regularly torn to pieces by the spelling police of this forum. Not that I have a problem with it as I'd rather read posts that were well constructed and have taken longer than 10 seconds to type.Although this does cause a lot of problems, particularly people claiming to be dyslexic. So, to overcome this is there any kind of 'add on' to this forum to incorporate a Mircosoft Word style check; highlighting or underline words which are spellt incorrectly?I realise there is a spell check function, although its obvious no one uses this. I also realise I've probably opened a can of worms here, I'm just wondering if it is possible at all (regardless if they can implant it or not) and please, for the sake of comedy, don't highlight any spelling/grammar mistakes in this thread. Mike Winton.
Sounds like a good idea to me, but it doesnt really bother me unless its un-readable.
Gavyn.
If you use ie then you should get that anyway, no?
Muel
I believe that firefox can do it, I used it in Linux, but XP won't let me. I've tried turning it on, to no avail.Spelling mistakes are fine, it's stuff like not putting capitals where they should go, not using any puntuation, and writing it text laguage that pisses most people off, especially when they say, I'm dyslexic. No your not, your just lazy.
munkee
There is a spell checker isnt there? well atleast there used to be on the old skin...
Dr. Nick Riviera
you don't need a spellchecker, a translator from 'Retard' to 'English' would be more useful.

MadManMike
I've given up correcting. The problem is people use the excuse that text talk is faster - it's not. It might have been faster in the days of monophonic Nokia handsets, but it isn't now.Personally I'd give out warnings / temp suspension for lack of effort. I mean some people literally type like this: "woz finkin of getin a onza tpro. u tink?" If someone is that lazy they need something done and I think a 24 hour suspension would make them try a little harder.

munkee
Realisticly though.. whats so bad about how the forum is at the moment.. like i know if i go in to nmc ill see text talk etc.. but f**k it i know ive lost the ability to correctly punctuate after 4 years of engineering calculations. So coming down with the fists of fury on people is just going to cause more problems than its worth. I over use ..'s but its fun for emphasis
Bondy
Get a mac, problem sorted Although if there was one put on the forum, i doubt it would be used anyway and just ignored.

Safari underlines words if they're spelt wrong

JonMack
I thought that if you went into Dictionary and changed it there it would change it system-wide, but it doesn't. So I dunno really, have a google, it works for me.Found it...Type a new post, then press control and click in the text box,Go to Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and GrammarChange the Dictionary to British English. Token
It'd be better if the spellchecker checked their spelling before they posted, and if there are words that aren't spelt correctly, then it wont let them post until they correct all their spelling.Sort of like a 'spell correctly, or you can't post at all'. Either that, or force each member to do a spelling test before they join. If they get less than 80% they don't get the confirmation email to join? Obviously the spellchecker checking before they posted would have to have lots of common trials brands added to it like Koxx, DOB, etc. and that could lead to some problems, but it would be cool if it could work.
