Radfax
I need to get some insurance cover on my trials bike, i am not to sure about how many of you on here have it but due to my area not exactly being the best i think its time i took some out to cover my back! Although my house insurance would cover the bike as its kept in my house 90% of the time i dont want to rely on this completely so i would like to get some cover. I would just like to ask, what insurance companies are you with or have you been with? How would you rate the service that they provide and who would you recomend? i am sure that not a lot of you will use it as i nerver have in my 6+ years of riding but i am wanting to get some. so share your thoughts/stories ect! Ticker
Did you buy your bike complete or build it up in parts?Because i tried to get some for my bike but because i built it to my own specfrom individual parts they wouldn't give me insuance.Unless i could prove how much it cost so would have to produce reciepts for every part of it which i didn't have. Peperami
Not sure who to recommend, but dont use e&l, complete rip off merchants.Try add it as a named item on your house insurance, might up your premium a little though. I think house insurance as standard covers up to £500 for un-named items on most policies.
mike
my friend got his bikes nicked, and loads of other stuff from his garrage, his mum claimed on the house insurance and got like £1000 to cover his bikes didn't quite cover the costs, but it was better than nothing. i don't think he has it as a named item either. lankyri
would it be a good idea to get that data tag or what ever its called as well from your local bike shop basically you have loads of stickers put on your bike and hidden away for example in your seat tube under the rim tape inside the bars i got it for my first bike and that cost i think 30 quid and you have like your own pin i think so you can call the police if stolen and you have more chance of proving that the bike is yours due to the pinnot the best help i know but worth a shot
monkeymoped
they are all a con most of them won't insure bikes over £1500, i bought an intense downhill bike custom build up for £4000 and no-one would insure because it was to expensive , i mean in the car world does that make aston martins to expensive.and even if you keep them in your house they have to be bolted to the wall etc. on things like the second floor or they won't insure them, and then you have to give some sort of proof that is where they are kept, its best to claim on house insurance if they are taken from your property if you can produce reciepts, believe that way saves time and energy and your more likely to get your money back.so all the bikes i have owned and have got are under the house insurance.for example e&l said they covered for race accident damage to bikes and my mate crashed his bike and went to claim they said that they didn't cover for races anymore even though thats what he specifically signed up with them fordata tag is defo the way forward Edited February 25, 2008 by monkeymoped

Phil H
Personally I either have my bike underneath me whilst I'm riding it or in the garage locked away where it is covered by the house insurance so extra insurance doesn't seem necersarry. But if you use your trials bike as transport I guess it would make sense. I had them for an expensive xc machine, and they'd 'upgrade' my cover every month with stuff i didnt need (euro travel etc etc), and increase the premium accordingly. I got hacked off after a while with having to ring them and downgrade the cover each time they auto upped it, so cancelled.Complete cowboys.
