Im In The Shit

The only thing you can do now is be remorseful, write a letter to the guy who you hit asking if he is ok and apologising for what happened, get yourself a good lawyer aswell because your really going to need him.

I guess your situation will seriously help your case the fact that you've been thrown out and presumably haven't got much money.

I kind of feel sorry for you, it's an easy mistake to make if your pissed off about something or just not concentrating and if it was late at night then you can say you were tired and not thinking clearly, but it's still your fault in the eyes of the law so prepare yourself for the worst.

good luck

If you accept full responsibilty from the off, then you will end up better off as far as your ban/prison goes.

I'd write to him and ask if you could go and see him to see how he's getting on, tell him your whole life story and then try and make sure the courts hear about your kind, concerned nature.

just having some bad luck ennit lol.

owell never mind.

Would you have the same attitude if you'd killed him?

I mean seriously, if I was in your shoes I'd be typing something more along the lines of:

I hit an old guy in my car last night, I was reversing a bit quick because I was pissed off and I smashed into him - he's in a really bad way and I feel terrible!

Yeah, this thread is like, ooh, feel sorry for me, not the old guy.

Don't write a letter - it'll look like you're trying to win the sympathy vote.

If you go to court, the best approach (as said above) is to genuinely appear remorseful and like you've learnt a lesson. If you're attitude is 'weren't my fault innit', they'll just slap a big penalty on you to teach it the hard(er?) way.

Be it back luck, incompetence or anything else, only YOU have the ability to improve your own prospects in life. So before taking each next step, THINK, as you won't be able to think afterwards.

I seriously hope you don't actually think like that :ermm:

The old guy (from what I can make out) was hardly (if at all) to blame

Yes there's always going to be the factor of 'he could have been more visible' or whatever, but at the end of the day you were the one in the 1 ton death-machine, and he's the one who's now critically injured

I'm not going to say much, as I feel most of what I wanted to say has been said, by other members, probably far better than I could put it across.

Have you seen/spoken to/heard from the person at all? Have you made an effort to?

Sorry to not seem to sympathetic, I understand that you're having a hard time at the minute, but the majority of it sounds like (as best as the internet can convey it) it's self inflicted issues, and has now ended up putting an elderly man in hospital. I do sympathise a little for some things that are beyond your control, but with a little more thought and action on your part, most of this could have been avoided.

All in all, it's happened now, and you really need to try to work at putting as much rigth as you can, not just with the man you hit, but with your family, job, and just generally getting your life back on track. Think before you do/say stuff, and work at making things right.

It won't be easy, but it will be worth it in the end

what a load of shit!

i dont agree with sticking your life story on a public forum for sympathy, some things should be kept personal.

people wont understand, they cant even begin to think what position your in so the best thing to do is deal with it on your own!

nobody will relate with it, and to be honest alot of people drive fast but they only realise when something bad happens, unfortunately you learnt your lesson the hard way!

i know vans are shit to drive, i drive one daily at work and in personal life and they are shit!

and 15mph in a van reversing at night?? you f**kin mad?!? whats the point? ent going to get you there any quicker is it.

still think this thread is shit, and EVERYONE GETS WHAT THEY DESERVE IN LIFE! take the good with the bad

you reverse slowly and drive fast ! especially when your driving a van, its a fact, when you reverse a van with no rvm vision is well limited! at least speed when you can see whats ahead of you

He wasn't reversing a van. He was reversing a car with tinted windows, in the dark.

Pretty similar to reversing a van though I suppose

I was more surprised by the statement 'Everyone gets what they deserve in life'. Which is quite possibly the stupidest thing you could say, especially considering some people's situations with losing close friends in car accidents or family members diagnosed with cancer.

didnt even read the thread properly thats how intresting it was...

you'll get f**ked for having tints, does anybody know what percentage tint was on the back?

scopse - things happen for a reason, believe what you want, ill believe what i want. strong people will get tested

you can have whatever tint you like on every window except the front sides, and wind screen.

Read the thread properly before you start spouting off, and if you still want to spout off, at least make it worthwhile, instead of incorrect facts like you'll get f**ked for having tints, which is wrong.
