Jolfa
Well, I've just got myself a new bike and got back into trials, I'm amazed how much stuff I can still do!Problem is, my arms, shoulders and back absolutely kill me for days afterWhat kinda stretches and stuff should I be doing after a ride?Or shall I just stop being a wuss and soldier on and ride with my shoulders practically seized up..? Simpson
Streach before and after riding, trials makes you strech a supprising ammont so if your that worryed just make sure your fully limbered up and maybe do some riding and small things on a cerb before jumping into the main course (its easy when you drive to just turn up and nail a spot from dead cold) The aching is because you have torn muscles and they need time to repair so just give it time, slowly slowly and you'll be fine I find i can't ride propperly for weeks after a London ride which is very fustrating
Ali C
stretching works really well! warm up for 5-10 mins first, get the blood flowing before stretching.
Jolfa
Ok, I figured stretching would be the right thing to do, and driving places and going straight for the biggest stuff is probably the reason I ache what kind of strecthes would be best? I'm not good with that kinda thing, I'm used to just going out and biking, but it kills me now How do you stretch shoulders?!
Waynio
like others have said warm up and warm down, this prevents injury also, it gets blood flowing through the body and muscles to lubricate them, a bit like a car engine. Simpson
If they are aching(sp?) after a ride i go for a nice long hot bath . Works evrytime( for me anyway ).Kelly Holmes used to have Ice Cold baths every morning and evening when doing the olympics, she explained in her books that is cleared or slowed lactic acid build up or something? Matt24.
I find its more the warm down that stops me aching. I usually make sure the last spot I ride is the furthest from the car/ station so i can take a slow ride back to slow myself down and keep limber while my body cools down. lankyri
nice little stretch before (touch your toes with knees straight) work up to the bigger stuff and then after the ride same stretch and quick shower (for a wash) and then a painfully hot bath so hot you sweat whislt in the bath always works for me and my back
Matthew_Gibson
My shoulder when stiff in the middle of a ride i had the other day, I blamed it on the bars being narrower, and me not being use to it. !!! Probably cause I NEVER warm up! should start really! get cram really easy
Token
Yeah you'll get cramp if you don't warm up, because Trials involves fast reflex power moves, if your muscles aren't warmed up an the blood isn't flowing through them then your going to get a lot of lactic acid. For the first 5-10 minutes just do small moves, nothing that really stretches you an then after the 10 minutes do some arm/shoulder/back stretching to make the muscles more pliable.
