mairomaster
So my new echo lite is already done. I use my old kmc k710 chain from my old stock bike. In the beginning it was ok but after a few days the chain stretched too much. Now my snail cums are on max tension but the chain is already not enough tight. I can't shorten it because if I put out even one link it would be too short. What do you mod people do if this happens? I think to order KHE Collapse chain but I am afraid that it could happen the same after a few time.
BenLeacock™
Order a new chain and marmite !
JT!
Sounds like you need a new chain. You can get KMC cool chains from supercycles at like £
mairomaster
My kmc stretched for so little time so I will try something better this time. Does somebody know if KHE Collapse stretches on a mod?
robonatomz
you need a half link, the problem is that the drop-outs are just so short on some frames that once the chain has stretched its impossible to adjust correctly, i just use a link from and old half like chain, but its tricky to fit properly, they do make actual half links, you can buy them from most bike shops, but i would say, a bmx specialist id best, they seem to be used a lot with race bmx, worth a try, rob
gussie
You might not need a new chain. I had the same problem as you. So I put washers on my snail cam bolt to make it larger so the snail cam os now not pushed all the way on. I used ordinary washer (10mm i had for my axle) and then put a smaller one on top to stop them from slipping off, and i used a old screw/bolt from a cupboard hinge because my snail cam bolt didn't have a head. Although you may choose to get a new chain but if you do make it the same length as your current one and then use washers.some picture, (sorry not very clear) Edited February 21, 2008 by gussie

Ladd
Im Pretty sure if you order a new chain and put the wheel the hole way forward and make it that size When tensioned the wheel will sit in the middle of the drop out so your brake should be fine, but yeh New chain ***
JoeM
KHE Collapses are amazing! Just got mine today, I had to take 10 links out though. Im not sure what else to say, but if the chain has stretched that much then you should look at buying a new 'un.
weebryan
my problem is the axle is getting near the end of the drop out not much left of the frame. i can see the marks where it used to sit when it was new but haved renewed my chain still the same have got a new free wheel still the same so the only thing thats is left the screw on cog on the hub so i need to try that and see what happens hope fully will shorten my chain stay length!! Simpson
Get a half link, i got a pikey one from CRC can't remember the name, lasted 6ish months, then things went..... downhill?
Mark W
If you mean you're still using your old chain, it's no surprise it's moved back in the dropouts. If you mean you've bought a new chain and it's still far back, that's kinda weird, but not that bad. If you find someone on here who's running a Shadow Conspiracy Interlock half-link chain (probably a BMXer, or someone who knows BMX...), get a link or two from them and bang one of them in your chain to shorten the effective chainstay length.
