Peperami
Was gonna put this in the angry thread, but was too angry to open it...Why are the bolts holding my hope mono rotor on made of cheese?? Just sliced a chunk of my knuckle off, and rounded off 4 bolts trying to remove it !!!!!! Now have to faff about with drills and shizzle. Thinking i might saw the bolts into some sort of flathead, and screwdriver them off
*Tom*
Befor you do that, find a torx key (if you have one) thats slightly too big and hammer it in, works most of the time for me.
Mike Winton.
grind the tops off and then get the plyers out.without the head they are only hand tight
Ladd
cut a slot in the top of the bolt and unscrew it like a screw
Token
You might aswell round off the other 2 bolts, seems a shame you only ruined 4 of them.Seriously though, after rounding off 2 bolts, didn't you think "Hmmm something's not right here". Respect for making a difficult job really bloody difficult though.
Revolver
perhaps, saw/file the sides of the bolts down so you can grab em with a set of pliers or a spanner

anzo
To be fair the bolts are utter shit. Torx heads are awful, one tiny slip or slightest bit of pressure and they just give in and then they're f**ked.I got torx bolts with my hope brakes, they fitted ok but I want to change my rotors...but its probably not worth the stress and an angle grinder is going nowhere near my wheels. Will have a look and see what bolts tarty have sent me with the new rotor, they look less cheesy anyways.
Si-man
Heavy handed bastards. You 2 would be perfect for working at my place. all people do is round bolts off which i have to fix :@It realls isnt difficult to use and allen/ torx key. Push, turn anti clockwise, simple..Next time, stick abit of copper grease in there, stock them chemically welding
Bendee
peperami i see your on tf nice one dont think you replied to the mtb thread on cs or you did and i missed it.the bolts are shite you gotta take your time with them, or do what i do and dont bother riding your bike then you wont need to fix it lol. ZeroMatt
Torx are the best bolts for rotors really, rounded no end of steel bolts on rotors.Infact actually snapped the torx tool I have doing some up this morning. Andeee
Hammer Flat head screw driver Press the flat head screw driver into the bolt then wack it with the hammer which will form the disc bolt into a flat head then unscrew it. Danny
The original silver hope hex bolts were a bit cheesy. Replace them with a set of their newer black torx ones. Much better. To be fair the bolts are utter shit. Torx heads are awful, one tiny slip or slightest bit of pressure and they just give in and then they're f**ked. No they are not. They are stronger than standard allen bolts. Get a decent bit and put it in properly and they wont round.
Pashley26
I really can't understand how people can mash/wreck bolts.....I hope it's just a mix of bad tools and rushing.

I know how to use an allen key fella.I really can't understand how people can mash/wreck bolts.....I hope it's just a mix of bad tools and rushing.I put the allen key in, turned it anti-clockwise, and it span instead of undoing the bolt. If i understood why it span, i wouldnt have done it!Hammer Flat head screw driver Press the flat head screw driver into the bolt then wack it with the hammer which will form the disc bolt into a flat head then unscrew it.Cheers mate, will give that a go. If it doesnt work will saw a flathead into it.

future orange 660
alot of the problem is that the bolts seize into the anodizing. dab some oil on the thread
Pashley26
You obviously dont otherwise you wouldnt have rounded it off Probably didn't "Push", but its ok because he knows how to use an allen key Edited February 20, 2008 by Pashley26
Peperami
You obviously dont otherwise you wouldnt have rounded it off Probably didn't "Push", but its ok because he knows how to use an allen key Lol, ive been riding club level cross country for around 8 years, trials for 2, and have built and tracked a clio race car... but yeah, which end of the allen key goes in the hole? Si-man
The corner bit where the bend is i though...Im not doubting your vast knowledge of using an allen key, If anything, you should be ruining threads from being manly not killing heads haha. You can get this threadlock type stuff that is similar to copper grease, but it also adheres to the thread. Cant remember the name of it though
Peperami
Lol, no worries fella. Think the bolts were just seized on, and used a bit too much grunt trying to get them off. Wrote this thread in frustration at the bolts, nothing more, i'll survive! lol Edited February 20, 2008 by Peperami
shovel
hence why all hope brakes now come with torx bolts instead of those silly 4mm ones best way to get rounded rotor bolts ou - cut a line in the top of the bolt with a hacksaw, impact driver with flathead screw bit, never failed with that
Tomm
No they are not. They are stronger than standard allen bolts. Get a decent bit and put it in properly and they wont round. The problem is that a t20 torx driver will sit nicely in a t25 hole. It's only after you've rounded it that you realise you picked up the wrong size. I don't like 'em.
