Pedal Hopping

Hey I'm new too, and the tips people have been giving me are:-

  • To Lean back a bit more - A lot of people get scared and so aren't leaning back far enough to keep the bike upright.
  • Keep your pedals level with the ground, not the bike. Lean to control your pedals more.

I think that's the main ones any way at the moment. But like I said, I'm new too so I'm sure others have much more/better tips.

:nerd:

yeah i used to have the same problem if you want to pedal hop then what you have to do is balance on your back wheel until you are comfortable then bring the handle bars to your chest try pushing as hard as you can on the pedals whilst doing that push the bars away like you are pushing away a chav that should help good luck nial

A big tip i give is alot of people seem to keep the selves rigid (OFC to some extent you must) But move with the bike to keep balance, don't work against it. How are you getting to the backwheel? Lil endo on to the back wheel? or just leaning back and throwing it up.......... Trashzen is great for beginners ensure you have a good read and just have fun (Y) don't get fustrated :)

A lil thing a friend of mine has taken on once i told him (when he was learning to sidehop) is to do something else and then comeback to it (Y) it helps trust me...... i'm a doctor.

I learnt to hop backwards before I could do it forwards...I think this helped me a lot as it made me more aware of my balancing point, than actually trying to get it to hop forward.

I think the error of people is kicking the pedals too early before the front end is high enough; its not a problem if you can already hop as you learn to adapt, but for beginners I think it is a big problem.

So, learn to balance before you try hoping forward. I vaugly remember trying to hop on the back wheel without using the pedals (stationary) and when I pulled the handlebars too much, the bike went backwards...then the skill came in of keeping it on the back wheel.

After that it all came naturally - so to some up you just need to find your balancing point and get used to having the bike in a vertical postion.

Strange thing with pedal hops, you take a while to learn them, but all of a sudden it call just clicks and you never forget it.

I think the majority of the forum remember their first pedal hop better than their first shag.

Hey dude!

I learnt to back hop by doing an endo, and then pulling back onto the back wheel and then trying to hop! i did a couple for a start until i found my balance point, from there on its about getting the bike under you and learning to kick.... its worth trying the Ashton/Hawyes way of pedaling and then breaking whilst on the back wheel!!
