round or square lenses in the yellow box (basically truvelo or gatso)

the truvelo flash wouldnt be as visible, it can still be seen if your looking at it, but it doesnt light up the sky. the gatso, which is more common. would be super bright.

if its a square yellow box, with square lenses, then your fine i would say (there are forward facing gatsos around, but there super rare at the moment).

best thing if you know where the camera was, have a look on one of the speed camera databases, should tell you what camera it is, and in which direction(s) it works.

also if its your first offence, you may get the chance of a speed awareness course for £60, rather than £60 and 3 points, its basically a long lecture in a classroom on how speed kills, taken by a boring copper, but its a whole load cheaper than 3 points when it comes to renewal time.

radfax-what the hell are you on about? forward facing cameras give out points and no fines? never heard of that one before, unless its something new thats been brought in.

A lad i used to work with got flashed by a forward facing camera, he then just got given the points and no fine...

he is the only lad i know who has been done by one and he is the only lad i know to get points and no fine...

so thats where i got that assumption from...

May be recent, it only happened a few weeks back, i dont really look into points/fines that much anyway.

sorry for any confusion mate!

nope, they're not allowed to do you head on. Most don't actually flash to oncoming vehicles, but i know of 2 in liverpool that do. I also know that i have driven through and had them flash me head on many many times with no come back as i know they're not allowed to prosecute using an oncoming vehicle photograph. *IF IT'S A CAMERA WITH A FLASH*

The reason is that they shouldn't actually go off, because the flash could startle you in your face and cause an accident, so unless the camera has no flash, you won't get done. Anyway, if it has no flash you wouldn't know it went of, so it obviously did, which means you're safe!

But bongo you have no number plate on ze front, unless you have a car again that I haven't read about....Probably have.

Edit: just re-read and you put 'Driven' not 'Ridden' I'll shut up lol

lol, i never didn't have a car! hehe. Like i said, i've been flashed over 10 times on these camera's over the last few years (which i know do work in the other direction), with no points.... they're not allowed.

gatsos aren't supposed to flash when you pass them facing towards them because the flash could dazzle you, obviously they do still do it occasionally but they also have to get 2 pictures of the car speeding so they'll get the first one but not the second because you'll have driven past the camera.

Nah, they get a pretty decent picture and can accurately calculate your speed from it, you used to get done for it, hence why there are the white markers painted on the road on both sides. But as other people have said, they're not aloud to prosecute as flashing you head in more recent years has been considered stupid and dangerous. Its like, 'hey, that guys driving too fast, I know, lets blind him! that'll help'

As far as I know you only get the speed workshop in some counties, and only if your doing between 35 and 40 in a 30 limit. (well at least that's the only people the let on the course I went on.

Nope, they are on both sides of the road in case you are overtaking. And they didn't used to prosecture head on, in the last 8 years anyway...

I'm sure if your doing over 54mph in a 30mph, they can ban you. So I guess if you were doing 75mph in a 40 limit, you could get disqualified.

Anybody got a link to the anti-camera vigilantes? The group of guys that go around burning/destroying speed cameras. I can't find anything on google.

can we stop making things up,,, seeing as people dont seam to understand cameras...

monkeyboy_375x500.jpg

if it looks like that when you approach it, IE you are facing the flash - IT WONT GET YOU

290px-Truvelo_speed_camera.jpg

If it looks like that as you approach it, again, IE Facing you - IT WILL GET YOU.

I must go through about 50 a week facing the wrong way and get flashed, No speed tickets in 3 years of doing it.

Yep ive got flashed by loads of em, in my car and even my motorbike, i guess they just calculate you speed comign in, back because they cant get 2 pictures they cant procecute? Im not to sure but im pretty sure road markings are to show how far youv'e travelled in "X" ammout of time?

Oh right, well thats what they told me in the speed workshop thing anyway. And that they kept the lines on both sides because of overtaking.
