Chandler
What do you guys use to protect your frame?Im thinking of securing some old tyre to the bottom bracket shell with some cable ties...(and also around the chain stays) gonna look a bit messy though Ive seen a bike with a chunky metal thing that fixes on the bottom bracket on youtube.....where can you get them?!Anyone know of some products out there? What else needs protecting and how? Chandler
This?Make sure you have the right mountings though.Yes Lloyd thats it! cheers for finding that... I might have to invest in one of those! It doesnt say if they fit 26" as it looks like they are for 20" Hmmm
Rich J
Bash plates for the bb shells are better than a tyre for impacts but you do need mount holes for them. to be honest who cares if it looks nasty putting a bit of tyre round your chainstay means your frame will last. Bash rings are a necessity really. Anything else really is overkill.

cai
get an armoured-dildo they are very scarce (sp?)He meens one of these; There called 'Armourdillo Downtube Protectors', they wrap around your downtube and have protective rods runing through it to stop dents.Heres a Review of them. I brought mine off of Ebay, brand new, but that was 6 months ago.Unfortunatly they've now gone in to doing SkateBoard Decks - Here's there site.I personally think someone (ie. TartyBikes) should make a copy with 'TartyBikes' printed down the side, they could even do them in different colours to match your setup! - I'd by one (in green )
Matt_Thibeau
You can also do it easily not costing much at all by taking pvc tubing ( plumers use it) and cut it in half. Then trim it to your liking and use zip ties or tape to secure it to your frame,I personally like this more than a store bought one cause pvc tubing is not much at all. freetrials661
To protect your chainstays, use an old innertube, cut it to the length of your chainstay, then cut down the middle of inner tube, wrap around chainstays, and zip-tie it on! works really wellfor bouncing chain/what not
Chandler
and I thought Ozzy was being distastefull! thanks for clearing that up....these "armoudillos" look pretty usefull if possible to get from anywheredoubt Id be able to manufacture anything myself! apart from cable tying innertube and tyres to my frame!I might just attach one of my shin pads! (not really)As for bashguards, surely any bashes will end up damaging the frame where its bolted in anyway?Plus they must weigh a fair bit? cos I dont see riders using them much...hmmm
eskimo
If you can't get hold of anything mentioned then just do your original idea. Cut a tyre and tape it to the frame. Worked for me a while back.
