Need abit of a hand guys, went out this morning to nick brothers bike, and found out brakes were froozen solid :| is there anything I can do to get it so they are back to normal ? I was thinking pouring warm water out of kettle?

Also the rear brake is all set up properly etc, yesterday it was working, this morning pulled the rear lever it went in as normal but then didnt spring back ? So it would like pull properly but not come back fully out, the pads are stuck on the rim? Is this also to do with it being froozen ?

Need to get it sorted asap really wanted to go riding today, any help would be much appriciated :)

Bring the bike in the house, you want the brakes to warm up slowly I'd imagine.

As for the stickyness, it may be the liquid was freezing, but Onzaboymark said something about when you bleed Maggies with water, it can mix with any oil that is left in there to form a sticky substance which can clog it all up.

OK then:

  1. Bring the bike in, keep trying the lever to move the fluid round, it may take a while to defrost.
  2. Once its working, it could be the tar you put on the rim that is sticking the pads on, it's not hard to investigate, if you pedal foward the lever should shoot back, if it doesn't, then one or both of the pistons are sticking in the slaves, or the piston in the lever is sticking.
  3. Report back with what happens.

Later dude.

Cheers muel, its all sorted now. The freezing problem, I already had the bike in house, so was doing basicaly what you said, just kept giving it a pull and its sorted, will leave for another 30 mins just to be sure (Y)

Other thing, i took the lever blade off, cleaned all the end bits put it back in etc, then it worked ? Im just guessing that there was to much shite on the end of the lever blade, as this brake wasnt froozen :)
