nc7r
Anyone know Virtual DJ much?I've got it for Mac now, but don't really have much of an idea how the hell to use it but want to learn.Any information or tutorials that anyone knows of? A couple of the guys at work use it so will ask them about it too I think. Also is it common that you download plug-ins for stuff, effects kinda. Also where do people get their loops and shit from? Thanks

boon racoon
Yeah it's pretty good like. If you're starting out / messing about and don't wanna beat match then it'll do it for you which is handy. It's better if you've got an external sound card or a 4.1 card because otherwise you have to have mono separated sound for the headphones (one channel) and speakers (other channel.)It's even better if you plug it into an external mixer (piece of piss to set up) which is what I've got because it's a bit restrictive just using the mouse (couldn't imagine using it on a laptop!) unless you're a weapon on the keyboard shortcuts. 100 times easier to alter the gain / treble / mid / bass with a proper mixer! You can also pick up decent midi controllers for about £100 so you don't need to use the keys / mouse at all but can still play via MP3.Ableton (software) is better - think that's what most Mac DJs use for clubs and that. Never used it though.Edit: Never going to match up to CDJs or Decks though. But obviously way way cheaper. MadManMike
I started on Virtual DJ (Well, it was called Atomix back then). It's not bad, but you're so much better off investing in decks!
nc7r
I'm not gonna buy some decks, I could afford it but I don't want to.I've got a huge music library on my computer and it's much easier to download and get hold of tracks for my computer. Definitely up for buying a MIDI controller but not sure which one to look at.

MadManMike
Haha. It'd be ideal to have a paid of those yeah?f**king expensive CDJ400's are only £900 a pair Try the 1000 mk3's mate, only £899 each In fact, I'd say buy no less than the CDJ400's if you ever do get decks - it doesn't pay to buy cheap. I mean it's like riding trials on an Apollo.I'm saving for the CDJ1000s and a DJM600 - Shame I don't have anywhere near the £2k+ you need! MadManMike
I've found the 100's fine to learn with, the 100's and 200's are perfect for beginnersIt's still like riding a cheap bike - everythings harder and sounds pants. I moved from cheap decks to my Denons and it just sounded so much nicer, it was much smoother. You can be a good DJ but cheap decks limit you - I know someone that still has cheap decks and he keeps saying "I want to buy new ones but there's no point as I never get any better" - with a 2 band EQ and cheap decks he never will get any better, because you can't on that equipment. When he mixes on my stuff he sounds MUCH better.Unfortunately if you really want to make it as a DJ most people take the piss if you don't own CDJ1000's or Technics 1210's. I don't, but a lot of people do. I guess it would be like a pro riding a Shogun Gimp.

the666ers
You could get a set of traditional decks and serato for the cost of those cdj's. Seems like a better option to me!
