mcinnes
I recently posted a topic to find out why i am hitting my leg off of my bars when i sidehop. I have found out why but don't know how to change my technique to stop it. The problem is that i pull the bars in so close to my body ( as you can see below ).So i would like to get some tips on how to change my technique please.P.S. I have tried tryed adding stackers under my stem and reducing stackers, but that only changes where the bars hit my leg. McInnes.

Echo-Scott
Longer frame is your best bet mcinnes. Save up a bit of money then sell your echo and buy a longer one.
Thurston
higher stem would be cheaper scott or change of technique would be even cheaper

psycholist
Looks like you're pulling the bike up vertically. Do you move backwards between the take off and landing? If so - and based on the picture I reckon you do - try giving the pedals more of a push before take off. Also a lower handlebar should allow you to get the bike to the same angle but have the bars further away from your legs...Next question is how to stop youself getting kneed in the chest on bunnyhopping big ups ... mcinnes
I don't go backwards when i sidehop, i seem to go straight up. I started trying different techniques today, i put all my weight over the back fo the bike, held my bars at an angle and after my hop that i use for preload i kicked straight away. It worked but felt really wrong. I think it will take a whilt to get used to it. Edited February 11, 2008 by mcinnes
joe b
I started having this problem after i went from my T-Pro to the shorter A3 and, like you, i posted a topic up about and was really getting stressed out about it, even to the point where i was going to sell my frame after weeks of having it!What you need to do mate, is just see it through. Evenetually, you will automatically change your technique so that you stop hitting your thighs on your handlebars.I hope it works for you, 'caus it did for me .Cheers,Joe. Tom_
Max has bruises on his legs i think. But that might be from gapping or tapping or somthing because he sidehops like a gay I have no idea about the problem as im shocking at sidehops doesnt look to different to an average sidehop though.. mcinnes
wear a pad.My mate ( Ross McD ) was saying i should put foam grips on the bars ( well where i hit my leg ). I think i shall do that until my technique gets better.

Trials Punk
I used to get this alot when hoping up stuff but I just grew out of it as my technique progressed naturally. You could try pushing your bike through the move by the bars a bit more. Use your arms to push the front away from you so your front wheel touches down first.
