Decade Ago
I was really bad at XC and long term stamina was not my thing.I started mucking around learning endos and back hops, then I saw 'Chainspotting' as soon as it was released and that was that. Ashton's section filmed in the States did it for me. I made the trek upto Bike 97 and saw the Mart(y)ins doing their thing, and again it totally cememnted in my mind how I wanted to ride.Unfortunatly I didnt have enough money to build a trials bike at the time so I began learning on my '97 Gary Fisher Joshua! I still have the frame, its in really good condition! After aloooooong time riding on that, and using my friends rigid bikes I got my hand on a Rocket FAB Stage One duel slalom frame, I rapidly learnt ALOT quicker and then bought the trials specific frame. I had that for ages and never made much of a progression. Pluss I started college and alcohol, girls, and cars took over so my bike got thrown in the garage.Until 2 months ago! I built a Czar trials bike up and have begun riding again. I am back in love with trials now, its also great to be able to easily afford to buy bits and bobs to try out or if I break them! The new generation of trials bike is wooooooooooorlds apart from what we used to ride, I can now see why people are doing such insane things. Bikes 8 - 10 years ago simply wouldnt have coped, brakes were just to crap!My only regret is stopping for so long, I wish so much that Id carried on riding all those years ago. matt middler
Roadies only get run down because they wear too much lycra and shave their whole body to save weight!
Swamptin
Ah yes, 2+grand carbon fiber road bikes.... things that a stiff breeze would blow over. They are fairly sweet all the same. Still, I never did like what might happen, last time i hit a gravel road at high speed i thought i'd died ..... steer clear of spd using, spandex wear roadies.... they're more nuts than you give them credit for. Landy
I got into trials after chancing across some videos on the internet. I have never enjoyed other people watching me on my bike, so it was the challenge of trials right from the start when I first started on my XC bike. bikerdude2006fr
I got into trials because of my cousin Kieran Whitefield!!! I had always done a bit of XC light freeridy stuff but prefered the smaller technical stuff! One day i went out for a ride with Kieran and tried out his super cool proper trials bike and i was hooked!!! i bought his woodman t-pro frame and he gave me some of his old stuff and i kitted the bike out with the cheapest Onza stuff i could find!!! I loved that bike!!! have been riding ever since, i do dabble in moto trials too when i have the money!!!
hI-OOPS-CAPS
i felt i couldn't not start trials.there was no one i knew who rode trials at the time and was a step in the dark so in the end i just bit the bullet.
