Krisboats
Dave, its a musical. Theres supposed to be singing. It was pretty good though, a good edge on the songs... nice and gritty and evil.
adamtrials
It's a great film. The original musical is even better, but they've done a great job of condensing it into the movie imo. They could have got rid of the songs, but the whole idea was for it to be a film version of Sondheim's musical... adamtrials
i had no idea when i went to see it, the mrs dragged me, then the singing startedand never ended The marketing for the film has been criticized for not advertising it as a musical. Theater director Alex Levy argued, "I picture hordes of teenage boys on Christmas break [...] Someone says: 'That new Tim Burton movie promises the most blood; let's go to that.' I picture their faces as Helena Bonham Carter breaks into the song 'The Worst Pies in London'. I see horror in their eyes, because this certainly is not what they were expecting."lol

F-Stop Junkie
It's good! Yes, it's a musical, but one with a strong narrative. The aesthetic is well worn Tim Burton (Let's make it all gothic and monochromey, with splashes of colour) but simple elements composed well.I liked it. mod_rider
Wasn't all that impressed to be honest, worked as a musical I guess, but was repetitve, was hardly any variation in the songs when you look at other musical films coming out now and in the past where there are many catchy songs (grease, you all know them really).I know Tim Burton tried to make the violence/blood noticeably fake, but it was just too fake, especially after watching other films of today which have special effects which you couldn't tell between that and the real incident happening. Also I think I could have written the storyline in 10 minutes as it seemed fairly uneventful, with only a few twists. However all these negatives could come together to produce a good film strange as it sounds, as I know most musicals don't and aren't intended to have deep meaningful plots, I'm just biased as I didn't enjoy it.Seems silly though that it's been nominated for so many awards, and critics are giving it 5 stars when there are many more enjoyable films out there that don't get such good ratings.Best part of the film for me was seeing sascha baron cohen talking and acting normally! He is a very good actor
