matt middler
Its now been about 2 years since I stoped riding trials and I'm now building a new bike, When i gave up most people were using cassettes and rear mechs, now there are alot of riders using Chain tensioners and single speed sprockets.Would these components work together:Hope Pro II 07 rear hub with a Surly splined sprocket (19tooth), Trialtech carbon single speed spacer kit, 74 Kingz single speed chain tensioner and middleburn RS7 cranks with (20tooth) chain ring? BenLeacock™
Yerp, would work nicely... not sure if the 19/20 ratio is very popular though dude ?
matt middler
What ratio would be good, That was the old ratio I used to have.
Matthew_Gibson
Dont see why they shouldnt. I've been running an old cassette that I drilled and used the spacers out for the past 2-3 years, Never had any trouble. WIth the 74 kings tensioner it moves the wheel over to the left. if your running a fat tyre may have clearence issues!
Luke Rainbird
20:19 is a very light gear ratio.Common ratios include;22:18/22:1920:1718:15/18:1616:14...though obviously there is a lot of personal preference involved

James Quigley
depends on the frame but I've never had any trouble with my 74kingz and I've had it on about 4 frames. The Pro II comes with spacers for single speed so the Trialtech ones aren't really necessary, unless you want that extra bit of carbon bling. Phil H
Go with the singlespeed set up every time.I run a 74 kingz, very efffective part I also use RS7's and 22-18 is the perfect gear for me.Phil
Ben John-Hynes
I will be using a Koxx drilled rim. Will that be a problem?if you run a 2.5" tyre with that rim there may be issues, as said before!get maybe a 2.35 tyre and it should be fine!plenty of people do it! cai
Your old gear ratio (20/19) would be equal to 1.05222:18 would be 1.22222:19 would be 1.15720:18 would be 1.11120:17 would be 1.17620:16 would be 1.2518:15 would be 1.218:16 would be 1.12516:14 would be 1.142The lower the numbers, the lower the gear!As for your tyre clearence, you should be fine!As you can see the 74kings tensioner only moves your hub a little, nothing to worry about!I hope i've been of some help to you,cai

I tried 22-17 and there is loads off difference in one tooth.Try out the thin cog before getting something like a surly of king. But gearing is all about prefference. See what goes, if not tweek it to make it suit you.
