grantham
you can do bike and gear+clothes for 20kg we had to do it for 10days in japan once!
Revolver
Why dont fat people have to pay more to fly?WORDgood point you knowbut then, fat short people would be paying the same as tall skinny people cus they weigh the same
Mark W
If your bike weighed 22lbs, that'd be 10kg of weight taken up. You could easily get clothes + gear in there too. Maybe weigh the suitcase 'n' stuff before hand and work out if it'll be viable though?
JT!
If i was going to take my mod on a plane which i will probably end up doing sometime this year, i'm going to take one suitcase and my bike in a bikebag. Your usually allowed to take two checked items.
tartan pixie
ahh see this is my claver plan, ill put bin bags round the dirty bits and wrap with my clothes!Ugh, bin bags will rip in no time, i use pipe lagging instead, it's cheap, strong, light, can be found at most builders merchants and might stop you from ruining your fave t-shirt. Also tape the cranks inside the chainstays (and if you have deraileur gears take the whole dropout off and tape it in there too). Then find a couple of old axles and place between the dropouts so that your stays and forks won't get bent inwards if it's sitting under 200kg of luggage in the plane hold, if you don't have spare axles some sturdy plastic pipe cut to length and secured with tape should do. Common sense should say what to do with bars/stem etc, just make sure nothing's got any leverage to bend anything else and get some fragile stickers from the person at the check in desk.A big roll of bubble wrap is a winner when packing bikes what if the airport lose your bag with your bike in lolEDIT:dont think like that, it only happens too really unlucky peopleOften people who loose luggage didn't think about the handlers when they booked the flight. If you've got to change flights make sure you've got a couple of hours sitting about in the airport so that if the handlers have a problem they still have time to get your bags transfered. If it's that important to have your bag then don't book it right through, collect it at each stop and book it on to your next flight, this way you'll spot problems much earlier though it is a slightly extreme thing to do. JT!
... though it is a slightly extreme thing to do.It's very extreme, it'd have to go thorugh check in and secruity again.I'm quite sure not many suitcases get lost, the majority of lost luggage has just been sent to the wrong place. However, i'd never put anything in my suitcase i couldn't live without.Like i said befor i'd go for a bikebag. Can't loose something that big haha.
Vee
i rekon itll be alright, as for spares who needs em!, the only thing would be a puncture n i tink i can find a shop there thats the only thing that could fuk up and the chan but nah i dont think like thatthe forks will be taken off completey to stop bending itll be pretty much completely stripped and put in all neatly(ish)clothes and stuff i can wear haha or put in hand luggage or my mum and sisters suitcaseso whys everyone being so negative?its my last minute idea so i can get bikin in spain! dont kill my dreams haha
JT!
We arn't trying to kill your dreams, i'm just trying to make you realise you don't need to take your bike to bits to get it on a plane.
