Fredfuzzyface
Hi all, I need some help on this one..Im just learning about engagement setups (36, 72, 108 etc), which lead me to different types of freewheel setups.Whats better? a rear free hub with a fixed front wheel, or a fixed rear hub and a free front wheel?which are stronger? do they feel the same to ride with? any other things to know about these two settups?Cheers!!! squeaky
i would have a fixed rear hub and a front freewheel the only bad point with having a front freewheel is that my chain didnt last as long
steve@banbury-trials
front freewheel allows easyer maintenance and cheaper replacemant if things go wrong, also some will argue the engagement is quicker wen running a ffw.steve
cadbury's cream egg
you can fit loads of engagement into a freewheel because they are quite larghe but the more you put i the weeker the freewheel will get . like a try all has 109 engagements . but isnt to strong . ive got one though and it hasnt given me any trouble . freehubs are very small so you cant fit many engagements into it with out weekening it alot . the balance of strong and engagements is 48 for freehub . (well this is what they think) but they still are very good hubs . ive had a profile and form the last week using a deng freehub . leon
dirt jumper jake
Hi, sorry for the hijack but is possible to run a rear and front freewheel?
spartan
You mean like have 2 freewheels at the same time??You could do it but it would be really stupid and you would not gain anything except maybe it would be louder. It would just mean that you have 2 times the possibility of having your freewheel explode.Another reason is that its hard to fined 2 different sized freewheels for the gearing you want. Like if you wanted 1:1 then you could run 2 18 tooths but thats too easy.I hope that what you mean.As an answer to the other question, i currently run a ffw set up but if i ever get a new drive train it will be with a freehub. I like the pro II alot and its worth the splurge.
Ash-Kennard
rear freehub for the win. way stronger, lighter, more reliable, quicker and more solid engagement

Alex Dark
Both freewheels have to engage at the same time aswell.Which is pretty much impossibleim using a fornt freewheel at the moment....more eps for the money and a lot easier to service and replace
