I have a 20 inch echo team and ive bought a 26 inch 24 seven trials frame and forks ive put the crank which is a front freewheel on to my new bike and the headset and brake. usually though freewheels on 26 inch bikes are ran at the back is there a disadvantage of running one at the front. ty

Is it the danny holroyd? I have one it's a right sod. Only this morning i bust the free wheel for the second time in two month's think it's because, it has horizontal drop outs, which means you have to have the chain quite tight, which puts a lot of pressure on the bearings in the driver, and if you have the 24seven hub like i do the bearings are really thin. As i was pushing it home i thought about running a free wheel on the front. I think their much tougher than the rear free wheel i have at the moment, but I think I'd have to buy a new back wheel as well. Oh and I think your much more likely to get your jeans dragged in to a front freewheel.

Just out of interest what length stem are you going to run? I can't make my mind up if mine is long enough, its a 90mm.

Why does horizontal drop outs mean you have to run your chain tighter? Iv got a mod with horizontals and my chain is well slack!

Yeah a ffw will be fine on a 26", i know quite a few people who run one up front, as far as i know they dont have problems!

The chain only imparts a TINY amount of pressure on the bearings compared to your legs.

And if you have a stock, it will have a bashring, which prevents you trousers entering your freewheel.

Do it, my mate has an Eno on the front, it feels fine and he is running a bodged derraileur (sp?) as a tensioner.

Someones been telling you lies!

I always get eaten by mine if im not tucked in.

Go ffw, its alot easier, just use a mech as a tensioner, cable tie the body to the chainstay and it'll be reet.

well i have a holroyd frame myself and you can't run a mech on there as there are no place's to put a mech hanger.

i have a profile on the rear and just run chain tentioners and its fine, just dont run the chain over tight and you get silly tight spots...there nice bikes to ride but very heavy, good fun and i love it.
