BenLeacock™
Will go get a pic now might help you!edit: Right mate, what you need to do is take the bit that the vinyl sits on take it off. Underneath there will be a big circle. Looks like this. (as you can see the band is still on there)Put the band around it, then there is little holes in the bit the vinyl sits on. If you carry on going round you will come across something that looks like this. stretch the band around there keeping it around the larger circle. Sorry about lack of techniqual terms (the bit the vinyl sits on ) hope it helps dude Edited January 31, 2008 by BenLeacock
MadManMike
(the bit the vinyl sits on )That'd be the Platter And yeah, follow his instructions...Some turntables have 2 places to put the belt so you can play at different speeds - most modern ones have a speed button on top though so you're probably alright there
BenLeacock™
That'd be the Platter new it was something like that wasnt 100% though

MadManMike
Cheap Amps:Technics ones on eBay. Technics old silver ones from mid 90's are bomb-proof and sound really nice. Should get one for £30-40.Speakers:This is a tricky one - I could recommend things but they'll be pricey - find some on eBay you like and link me - I'll let you know what I think Pre-Amps:There's the Goldring Pre-amp that is really nice, search eBay for Goldring pre and you should find it.Anyway, hit me with links and I'll say yes or no and why.Power wise, look at Technics amps with about 45-50 watts per channel, and speakers up to about 200 watts. 100 Watt speakers would be ok but ideally you want to go for 150-200 so they've got a little more brute force
BenLeacock™
i can't find anything . Might just keep a eye out for interconneter to usb. Ive got a jvc one somewere thats pritty niffty !

They are about £2 in Tesco's but I'd go for one about £10 from a hifi shop as the Tesco ones are gash quality. It's all relative though, if you're using cheap speakers get the cheap one... BenLeacock™
Surely he will want to use headphones aswell ? Why not get the one with the 4 heads ? plug in back of turntable and into back of hifi ?

In which case he could still use Headphones as that lead plugs into Mic socket
Caleb
cheers for all youre inputwould this be alright for pre amp?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cambridge-Audio-640P...1QQcmdZViewItemor thishttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/pre-amplifier-PRE-AM...1QQcmdZViewItemill have a look for one of them leads now, i might go for separate speakers and amp set up when i get a better vinyl collection but at the moment just want to test it and could do with the space
MadManMike
The NAD PP2 is better than the Cambridge Audio, but they are both adequate... I would have thought the NAD will go for slightly more, if you can stretch to it, go for it!Go for seperates if you can as they'll sound better, if not just run it through the PC mate
Caleb
mint seriously thanks a lot, will keep this topic updated when i eventually get amps and speakers sorted etcalso could i theoretically cut a phone lead before the connections , strip the wire and use them direct with speakers that just require a bare wired connection? Caleb
Bit of a bump , after been sidetracked spending money on bike parts and clothes i probably wont wear i managed to get a bitof a baragian on a nice technics ampan su-v3i did really want the su 7700, due to being bloody cool more than anything else and the wooden surround but the last one i was bidding on went or £60 upwards and couldn't afford it at the time. At least i can play some records this way.do you still have any speaker wire available mike? and will i definitely need a pre amp?
