nah I would got for something like a saxo vtr or that you can pick up a mint condition non ragged 40,000 miles beast for that price and it will be quicker and less on insurance.

you could go for a golf or something like that turbo diseasal would be better.

They are asking over the odds for that.

hmmmm his PX with the dealer he is going with next is at 1,400 according to him so if that is so it is pretty reasonable i see your point :)

just out of interest have you declared mods on your insurance quote, you'd be much better to buy a standard even if it doesn't look quite as good to you, it'll drive the same the just as quick and after the year you can add exhaust and induction kit like that one has

Our Delivery driver at work has an old Rover 214, he's owned it from new and put almost 250,000 miles on it, And he still drives it to spain once a year for his holiday, We were talking about it today at work !

The garage my friend works at, has a Renault Kangoo van, done 400,000 miles, they have owned it since new. Only ever needed filters plugs and a new exhaust.

They always take it down to france for the beer run once every 6 months, Haha.

Haha, Kangoo's are pretty new too :D We've got one as our work van (Y)

I don't get why people want to get a biggest car in the world when there 17. There only going to smash it up then sell it after a year.

Word. If I where to start again, I'd just have a old 106, 300 quid tax an mot runner, if it got binned, providing it was only the car involved, no other parties injured, scrap it, start again. Cheap to run, tax an insure. Would keep you going for long enough to build up good experince.

Then get a powerful'er car. Obviously dont jump into something daft, but just build your way up :)

1) It will have been ragged harder than other cars the same age/mileage.

2) It's still reasonably cheap though

3) Be prepared to pay for lots of little things (My Polo's on 132K and it's been racking up quite a few bills recently - exhaust, alternator, some of the electrics etc). A cheap car is no good if you have to spend a grand in the first year. It might still be running in another 50K miles, but how much will that cost?

the facts its been regularly serviced, and the fact hes part of ffoc, doesnt mean crap really. cars can and still will go wrong, my beemers done 148k, and its fine(ish) but i know of one with sub 50k, thats had several hundred pounds spent on it in the last year due to flat spots and cutting out irratically.

only issue, its a lot of car to bin. if you right it off, and your third party, even if you just total it into a hedge, its £2700 down the drain, and if your fully comp, ur messing up your no claims to get the cash back. buying a £300 car has its merits,if anything goes majorly wrong, you dont fork out to fix it, you weigh it in, and buy another one, when you clip that parking bollard/lampost and stick a dent in your wing/door/bonnet, or scratch ur car on a wall. it doesnt matter, it looks crap anyway,as opposed to spending £250 on a new wing and fitting, if you bin it, it costs less than your excess to replace it. and providing its got tax and test, youll never lose money on it.

my main worry would be binning it, i wouldnt worry about the mechanical condition of it. im 20(shit thats old) ive covered about 50k in various vehicles from motorbikes to mercedes trucks. but im still worried about the idea of spending 8k on a car i could bin. i spent £3k on me first car, i totalled it, and made about £400 back. but then if you want it because it looks nice, go for it.
