Crank Help

i have an echo old crank not sure of the model or age but the pedal thread is slightly stripped.

was gonna helicoil it but remembered it is a left hand thread.

was thinking if i heli coil from the other side (side facing the frame) outwards then it would be left hand thread when i put the pedal in from the correct side.

anyone else think this would work~????

I hope it will work, because i've done the same thing to my brand new echo forged crank (left hand side) aswel.

Well to be fair it wasn't me it was my mate who did it while I was tensioning the chain.

I don't know much about helicoils, i thought you could only get them in maggie mount sizes, where can you get ones the size of pedal threads?

You can get helicoils in a myriad of different sizes. Remember also that's there's the diameter of the thread and the pitch.

The simple answer to the first point is NO you most certainly can't use a right-handed (i.e. 'normal') helicoil in a right-hand crank. The right-hand crank has the left hand thread, and this needs a left-hand helicoil. Putting in from the back makes no difference!!

If it's a drive side crank then it's a right hand thread, if not it's a left hand thread. Putting the coil in from the other side will not change the threading direction. If you use two right pedals it'll work, but the right pedal in the left crank will almost certainly keep coming loose due to thread precession.
