CRAZY EYES ASH

Recommended Posts

Having recently got my hands on a ZHI Z1 frame im now looking to build it up. Im coming from a 24seven holroyd which has bmx rear spacing.

Therefore im needing a new hub and cant decide on hope pro 2 or chris king singlespeed. Vast difference in prices obviously but could do with some outside opinions soooooooooooooo

PRO 2 OR CHRIS KING??????????????????

Cheers big ears

I killed my King, went to a Pro2 and trusted it much more. That then blew up (cracked hubshell) and I'm on an '07 version with no problems. Trust it 100%

try picking up a second hand King.

You may be lucky and find one that doesn't skip, if you do you'll be sorted for life.

they don't sound that class in my opinion, and the king isn't "smoother". cos that just doesn't make sense.

steve

It feels smoother imo.Id get a second hand king or get one of that aspire to save money. If you carnt get one cheap just get hope.

pro 2 is so much nicer, and more important the 07 ones are far more trustworthy than a king, easyer to service, sound better and the fact that 2x pro 2's are still cheeper than a top spec king (you really need the hd axel and freehub bit on a king, for it to be reliable).

so my verdict is a pro 2 07

King.

I'd be tempted to go for the HD Classic instead of singlespeed though - steel driveshell which won't be dug into as easy and won't deflect or deform as much under pressure.

Either get a proven 2nd hand King hub (like I did) and LOOK THE F**K AFTER IT or buy a brand new one from Aspire and BREAK IT THE F**K IN before riding trials. The bits in capitals is generally the stem of people's problems with Christopher Kings (except N. Wood who got unlucky unfortunately, it happens just as with the Hopes and hubshells cracking).

If you don't have the money there is no question, get a Hope. They're excellent hubs (although IMO undeniably not as good as a King) and will see you right for plenty of time.

I've had 2 Kings, Profile, Pro2 ...

Kings are absoloutley amazing! never skipped on me, they won't skip aslong as you maintain them correctley.

Pro2 was also amazing ... just less engagement but you can hardley tell to be honist with you, allso pro2 is alot easier to service.

Don't need a specific kit to service to take the freehub off and clean insides out.

Just go for what you want your choice!

Both amazing Hubs.

I've had two second hand Kings and they've both been fine....

If you can afford a King, get one, if you want a Pro 2, get one. I've had Kings on both my bikes and wouldnt have anything else, after riding on my friends Pro 2 over Christmas I just couldnt get used to it, it just felt so odd compared to my King.

iv had a hope for nearly a year never had a problem except i was testing out some spring bending and errr well 2 snapped so theyre being replaced, if you can get a king second hand for about 80quid do it if not the hope is loads cheaper more reliable and easy to fix

im not saying that kings arent great but i know someone who goes on and on about his king and its slipped the most out of all the hubs our group rides and sounds like a dying bee

but the engagement is real intense
