2x Front Wheel Building

Recommended Posts

hey guys,

well ive had a shot at building my first front wheel today and ive had a few problems...

ive been following the guide in the wiki on this forum but as you probably know it is for a 3x wheel, which in all fairness is no use to me.

ive laced the wheel right - ive got the spokes in the right holes ect. but the wheel is leaning over the non-driveside
heres a sort of make shift diagram:
-\-
imagining that the '-' lines are the hub and the '\' is the rim.
so first of all i was wondering how i would pull it over?(if i spin the wheel it stays at the same angle for the full rotation so it isn't a buckle)
secondly the spokes that are crossing the others are bulging out heres another one of my super cool make shift diagrams:

/||\
-| || |-
\||/

i think what ive done is that i havent put the 'overlaping' spoke under anyothers but that is my opinion!?

so could someone out there please help as i would like to have it going for the poole ride this weekend without charge! :P

thanks alot guys

If you can get pics it would help loads but it seems to me you're doing well and you need to true your wheel, you need a trueing key. Whack it in you forks use them as a guidline. Basiacally i go round and get all the nipples tightish see how that is about 3 full turns and then you need to start gettin it true, rule of thumb either half or quarter turns what youd o to one side do the opposite to the other. The way your build works is in the three spokes so i.e. tighten 2 loosen 1.

Just read what i wrote^^^^ sounds wank i know what i mean add em if you need help he_llo@hotmail.co.uk

thanks for the help mate i really do apriciate it, but i dont think the problem is in the spokes and not the truing

Well if you want it done for this weekend and it's your first wheel....It might be worth getting a pro to Dish/true it

Sorry but i can't help you, Because i can't see it. Whats the chances of some pic's ?

Jarrod

as i said somewhere up there ^^^^ im heading off do get my head down for the night so if i dont have it sorted by this time tomz then i will definatly shove some pics up

Ok well if it isn't in the trueing it must be the lacing :) did you use the guide, or was it no use to you? What did you do 2 over one under or w/e can't remember the right way round (long time since building), Did you find the right hole on the other side of the hub? The 1st one is crucial :)

Tom (like we said get some pics tonight or tomorrow and we will tell you the problem)

yeah i used the guide as much as posable (because of the wheel being 2x and the guide being 3x :( ) but i think it could be the fact that i havent taken the 'overlaping' spoke under any so il probs be trying that tomz

Hmm if its not trueing the spokes might be a couple of mm long happend with me

this might also be the problem.

where did you get your spokes from? i got mine from tarty. however tarty have always been very good and helpful to me so sorry to the tarty guys if i am wrong :)

Have you got new spokes or are you using all your old stuff hub spokes ect or rim spokes ect

new spokes and nipples :)

the hub and rim are new to me but second hand, both in top condish(y)
