TomN
Alright does anyone happen to know what is squeaking in my car? It squeaks when i change gears and accelerate then it stops after a while. It also does it when my car is at stand still in netural and when i pushing the accelearation pedal it does it. Would it be my fan belt? My mate also have similar car and he said his started to do it aswell but he is saying it might be because its cold because when he keeps it in the garage and takes it out the next day it's alright. Hendrix
Could be a number of things :Fuel PumpFan BeltCould simply be your pedals are stiff! my dads Volvo squeeks a CRAZY amount, just due to his pedals not being oiled
Will Arnold
fan belt, when they are cold they're less grippy, there foreslip and make noise, when warm they get softer and grip either need a new fanbelt, or tension the fanbelt properly. maybe the belt has been contaminated with oil?hope this helps
MadManMike
Third vote for fan belt! The sound is twice as loud outside the car - annoying isn't it!

Robwalker
What car do you have? I would go with alternator, as mines doing it alot too. I think you'll find its actully the bearings inside that are causing the squealing, well atleast thats what i think mine is.
Revolver
if its the squeaky squealing sound i think you mean (many a car i've heard drive around with it constantly) then i think its the fan beltand i tell you this now, the second my car starts doing it i'm gonna get it sorted. And probably twat the car one for being annoying

RobinJI
Yeah, alternator belt for sure. Dont pay someone else to do it, on those cars its the easy'st thing in the world. just take off the front right wheel so you can get at it through the wheel arch and its a peice of piss. Gavyn.
on a similar note my mini makes a terrible grinding noise when your just driving about but it stops when you floor it or when you turn a corner and it's not the wheel rubbing on the arch but it sounds like it.it sounds bad so i have stopped taking it out any ideas what's causing it

Gavyn.
Wheeel bearing? How many miles ahs it done/last relaced bearings? Any idea?Or, any side to side motion in the wheel?I did think that because there are some spacers in behind the wheels there's maybe a tiny bit of movement I haven't jacked it up to have a look yet it's going for a service in a months time so they should get changed then. it's off the road anyway just now.
