streetjibs
Well its been a while since iv had to buy a hub and really miss my old hope xc. So iv forgotten the differences between the older models...Looking at the hope xc, mono rear (ti), bulb, and ti glide.Mostly wanna know the differences between each, (looking at the hope xc atm - price is v.good)such as engagement points and strength of engagement (how many ratchets engage same time) etc etcThanks...Danny
Muel
The Pro 2 Trials is best for trials. Apparently, I've never used one.
Nick Garland
XC and Mono are the same except eh XC has a disc mount, both with 21 engagements 3 springs all at once nothing offset.Bulb has 36 engagement points and I think it too uses 3 springs however its ratchet teeth are a lot skinnier as it fits all 36 into one ring, thus they break a lot for trials.Ti Glide is old as far as I remember, again its a mono with a Ti main body with out alu flanges, 21 engagements, 3 springs nothing offset.I would reccomend spending a bit more, as most people probaboly will and getting the Pro II trials hub, 48 engagements, 4 springs, offset 2 engage at a time on a 24 tooth ratchet, thus lots of engagements and very strong as the teeth and ratchets are deep. streetjibs
thanks for the info guys - quickest replies ever Iv just gone through 3 pro 2's in less than a year!! 2 of them where the newer ones with reinforced shell. My xc lasted me about 4yrs. so pretty keen to go back to them. few less engagements is a small price to pay for security.is it worth gettin the ti version? AdamR28
If you're killing Pro2 T hubs then an XC/Ti Glide/Mono/Bulb won't last you 5 mins...
Tomm
is it worth gettin the ti version? You haven't been able to buy them for probably 5 years, so I'd be very surprised if you could get one. They are pimp though.
streetjibs
If you're killing Pro2 T hubs then an XC/Ti Glide/Mono/Bulb won't last you 5 mins...snapping pro2 shells ... no problems with breaking pawls etc.my old xc lasted 4 years. AdamR28
How long ago did you have your last XC though? And how much has your riding changed since then? That's the issue I think.
streetjibs
mmm good point thanks adam... yeah it used to be more rolly/bmxy/etc less kicking type moves -gaps/sidehops etc. its not for a full on trials bike.. but for a bike il use to do street and some trials on. the xc shells are definately stronger... are you saying the internals would go quicker than a pro2 wud? What are most people using for 24s etc (who use them as 2nd bikes) i defo cant afford a 2nd king! Tomm
DMR revolver + ACS claw? That's probably what I'd have if I wanted a strong but cheap wheel.
Waynio
yo geez, everything is discontinued over here, the only ranges that are current and staying are pro2 (including Trials) and also Pro3 (which are similar to pro2 but with stainless bearings in)I think hope have done the right thing as the XC hub was a bench mark hub but the new pro2 stuff is way better and the price difference is not a very lot.Wayne. Tomm
I've heard that bike shops are still able to get XCs in - is that just old stock or are they continuing making them in smaller numbers? To be honest, an XC for ~£90 is better value than a Pro II for £140 for most people (Trials riders excluded).Pro3 (which are similar to pro2 but with stainless bearings in)They don't have a disc mount either. Waynio
they are supposed to be doing a pro3 with disc mounts (like i said before, just a pro2 BUT with Stainless steel bearings) as i have been informed.as you correctly pointed out the MAIN reason the Pro3 hubs were released were for road purposes, direct pull spokes etc, but they do do standard flanged hubs.Wayne. grant wildman
Ive been running a pro 2 trials on my 2 for a while now , has been wicked .another hub you could try is the draco dh hub from BETD Gold tech, only realy heard about them in the dh scene but seem to have good feed back.Perhaps look into getting a 'stelth clutch hub' a friend of mine got one from america for just over a tone english.had awsome engagement , not sure on strenght though. grant
Phil H
I've got one of the Mono Ti's. At first I thought it might be a hyped up XC but its actually alot nicer, more reliable and alot louder.Ideally I'd have a pro 2 but I just can't justify spending those crazy kinds of money on a hub. Besides I bought a Try-all Rim on the Mono Ti for £40 which was a complete bargain and its lasted me ages (until I recently got an echo 07 built on) In conclusion XC's are abit flimsy in my opinion as I killed mine in a couple of months but the Mono Ti will do the jobPhil
