Egg Fried Rice
RightIf i bought a car that was for me to drive and i went on my dads insurance (he as the main driver) and me as his additional driver would this be illegal? Cos in theory, my dad isn't actually the main driver and i am. And what if i did have an accident and they found out i was driving? Surely i could say i was just using the car as i AM an additional driver because a lady from churchill insurance said if my dad wanted to be the main driver and me as the additional (but i was the one driving most the time) this is fraud?JKEDIT: important thing i forgot to mention, my dad has other policies on other cars so i think the lady on the other end of the phone thinks i am using my dad as a way of getting cheaper insurance, but i thought going on your parents name with insurance was quite a popular thing with new drivers? i know alot of friends that are on their 'rents insurance. Rojo
Eh, i dont know the answer just now but i do know some people that probably will. I will get back to you when i have an answer!EDIT (from a friend): Hi, worked as insurance consultant for 3 years so should be able to help!if ur dad is gonna be main driver on the policy, he needs to be the registered owner and keeper of the vehicle.if u put him as main driver and u as additional driver this should be fine and u will be covered. if ur using the car to go to and from a permanent place of work u will have to tell ur insurance company this to be fully coveredEDIT 2 (from same friend): just read what i sent lol,ur dad as the policy holder would have to be registered owner and keeper but u can still be the main driverur insurance company should be able to arrange this no probs for youI think that is what you are being told by everyone else! BONGO
Yes, if it's your car and he's the main driver it's illegal. Even if the car is in his name and he is the main driver, if you are the driver who drives most of the time, then you crash, the insurance can (and have, in JTM's case) written letters to neighbours and interviewed locals to find out how often he drive it against how often the 'main driver' drove it... anzo
Research insurance before buying a car. Read many topics where people are pissed off because they cannot get insured on the stupidly powered car they've just bought and are then forced to sell.Yes, it is illegal. And to be honest, there may well be ways around this, but its just not worth the pain. I'm currently insured on my 1.2 Punto for just £90 a month! Hardly a bank breaker at all, the car cost me about £900 and is in excellent condition with zero problems so far (apart from a snapped cam belt...but puntos have safe engines! = no damage).I'm quickly coming up to 1 years no claims at 20 years old...by which time I have a choice for my insurance price range...Brand new car, or more powerful car.More powerful (talking Saxo VRT for example) is only an extra £10 a month for me...shame about the car, eh? lolEdit: I know thats not what you wanted to know, but thought some advice won't go a miss Out of interest, what car are you looking at? Gavyn.
it doesn't matter who's car it is aslong as the person who drives it most of the time is the main driver, for example i'm going on a policy with me as the main driver and my mum and dad both on as named but my dad owns the car.
