Alex Dark
Right, Just a quick question; one of my mates (by the name of ravemonkey )has been a member for 2 and a half months still isn't validated....All his posts are informative, good grammar, spelling etc and meet all of the criteria in the scientists guide to validation...he's broken no rules and responded to loads of posts....Can i nominate him for validation? or is it against the rules ?Can a mod look at his posts please? Please don't flame me, im only asking.... Al_Fel
It must be a pig of a job for the mods to look through everyones posts to validate them. I wonder if it would work if full members could like you say nominate new members and once say I don't know about 10 members nominate them they get automatically validate? To be honest though Its very rare that I go on the pre members forum. The Stig
If you notice the mods will look over the New members chat once in a while, i.e. there alot of new member recently, my guess (only a specualtion) They go through the NMC once a month/ week and the best get validated if good enough, however i think some are missed and do give up on such a good forum. It might work Would like to seeThanks Tom
Alex Dark
Thats the thing, it would make more sense .... the mods must get so bored wading through the utter crud that turns up in NMC, wouldn't this save them the hassle and make sure people that deserve to get validated, do?The only disadvantage i can see in my own idea is that if someone joins, and has loads of friends they might nominate he/she, although if that person were friends with that many trials riders the chances are that he/she would already ride to a fair standard and therefore ahve a fair amount of technical knowledge. anzo
I was validated within a few minutes...some guy suggested I should be and it happened. Afterall, I did use good spelling and grammar.I'm not in any position to comment for the owners of this forum, but I wouldn't see much harm in 'recommending' a member, although it's a system that would be abused to death...constant voting, PM'ing mods all the time, moaning that no one pays attention or that X got validated when Z got more recommendations. All in all, I'd say it was a bad idea to write it into the forum setup. But I don't think theres would be any harm in just putting 'recommended validation?' somewhere in the post (a constructive post to avoid spamming)...I've done it a few times. Unfortunatly, I think too many members of this forum would burst a bollock if their mate* wasn't validated instantly.* - I say mate, which is important. People will just recommend them on that basis and you'd soon get sick of seeing 'recommended' written everywhere.Edit: Afterall, the system works well. Don't fix what isn't broken! Alex Dark
is it worth dropping one of the mods a pm?.....we could have a validation thread.., i would have thought that would work

Rich Pearson
Here's how it works at the moment:In Senior Member chat theres a thread called the Validation thread. Any senior member, mod, or admin can post a link to a New Members profile and suggest they be validated (the mods and admins don't usually bother, we just validate them on the spot). Note: This is also how the Senior Member validation works...However, more recently, people have been using the Report Button to not only report negative feedback, but also to suggest that people should be validated, which seems to be working. If people want to try this and see how it works, we might see about implementing it as more of a primary form of validation reccomendation.Rich
Alex Dark
Cool, ill do that then... would you mind taking a look at his posts?
tomturd
Yeah just use the report button It brings up a popup box like when you get a new PM, from there we can easily check out their posts.EDIT: just validated rave monkey. Before anyone gets excited and thinks nominating people in this thread will get them instantly validated, PLEASE USE THE REPORT BUTTON!! it makes it looooooads quicker as we have a direct link to their posts that way. Synergy
how long ot new members nominate themselves?
Danny Kearns
I was going to reccomend more Moderators but we don't need more Moderator's.What we could have is. On a warz forum i am a mod on. We have "Quality Control" staff members. Now what there job is too do. Is too check posts I.e - Release's of Films, Games, software etc to check that they are too the forums requirements. So i was thinking we could set up a Similar system. If it were to be enforced, the "Validation Quality Control" members, would not have the privs of a Moderator, Just the privs to either give reccomendation and there job is too focus on NMC alot and look out for all the decent and regular posters (These would have to be very frequent forum users) or they actually have the power to validate members. It also takes less pressure off the other staff I.e - SM, Mods and Admins.Just a thought. It works well on another forum im on. I would be happy to go into more detail about it with you Tom Or Danny.Thanks,Danny.

Al_Fel
yep...im starting to regret starting this topic......er, would it be an idea to lock it? Sorry mods.... :$Its not like that this is a forum for people to discuss opinions. There's nothing wrong with people giving out suggestions its all just in the best interest of the forum. Tom and Danny have done a great job over the years and no one is trying to take that away from them its just a case of letting them know their ideas and suggections. anzo
Indeed, I didn't mean it like that! We all owe Danny and Tom a lot, and a forum is only as good as its members. And through the members a lot of the forum has turned out the way it has (for the better). What I meant by the can of worms thing, was that its something I could see getting abusing and causing a lot of arguments in NMC. Its obvious that some New Members are overlooked and we all come across it every so often; but we always see the 'Members think they're too good for NMC'...and yes, its unfortunately true with some members, this voting system (I don't think) will help the situation. And sorry to be an arse, but its happening now. This topic has been placed under 'Trials Chat' where New Members cannot have a say on the matter.
Krisboats
So i was thinking we could set up a Similar system. If it were to be enforced, the "Validation Quality Control" members, would not have the privs of a Moderator, Just the privs to either give reccomendation and there job is too focus on NMC alot and look out for all the decent and regular posters (These would have to be very frequent forum users) or they actually have the power to validate members.A team of 2-3 people could manage that quite easily. It should ease up the jobs of the current mods/admin and there'd also be less chance that people will be stuck in new members chat for such a long time. I do use the report button to bring people to the attention of the powers that be if they look like decent people and type properly. I did it just the other day and the guy was validated within 6 minutes of me using the report button, with a nice welcoming post from the mod that validated him. Although such a system would currently work as not a great amount of members do it, if it were to become more commonly known i'm sure there'd be reports left right and centre off people who want their friends to be validated, which would just be creating a new problem entirely. I think this is why the VQC idea isa better option.

Its not about asking a question getting it answered and closing the thread because someone might come up with a better answer or a valid point. Krisboats
There is a senior member chat? Can you please post a print screen? I'm interested to know what it looks like. Same as normal forum sections, just a list of topics and you can make posts like normal. Its nothing that amazingly special.
