I_RIDE_ECHO!
Would you say it is a good idea changing from a front magura hs33 to a disk?? Is there any bad points of having a front disk compared to a magura? And would you choose a cable e.g BB7 or would you have a oil disk like a hope or magura louise? In need of advice cheers boysCHIGS Edited January 13, 2008 by chigs4eva
Echo-Scott
I wouldn't say it was a good or a bad idea. Its just up to what you prefer on the front. If you find it hard to set up and get a front magura to work then a disk would most likely be better(depending on what disk you decide to use) but a well set up magura can be as good or even better than a disk. I_RIDE_ECHO!
Go front Vee brake! The thing is i have just bought some echo forks with four bolt mounts and disk mounts. And i might be buying a try-all rim with a disk hub off this lad, and im not sure if i should keep running my magura or change to disk? He was running a disk so the sidewall paint is still as good as new so....?CHIGS
Grant Hundley
Personally I would stick with the Magura, but thats because i prefer rim brakes. With disc brakes you can feel the flex from the disc rotor and spokes. With rim brakes it will feel a lot more solid than a disc, this is because theres no rotor and spokes to flex.Disc brake do work in the dry and the wet, but if you get a bit of oil near the rotor, then your brake just won't work. Also, it is possible to hit and bend the rotor, obviously this will mean the brake won't work very well.Rim brakes won't work in the wet unless you have a grind, personally I find a grind on the front annoying because you can't slow down smoothly and you can't slow down without your pads wearing down at a silly rate. Rim brakes are also noisy a lot of the time (especially with a grind)..If your current set up is how you like it, then why bother wasting your money on something you might not like. Echo-Scott
It is completely up to you if you change or not but it can be expensive to change to disk just because you can rather than needing to. Personally I would stick with the magura till it breaks but it is up to you in the end.

Charlie Jennings
Change the forks. Go to rear mount. A lot better hold. ALSO: While your there. get lighter forks ALSO: I personally think that you hit disc's way too much. Also: they are harder to setup. V-Brakes are awesome to setup. Ravemonkey
In my opinion it is so much better to run a rim brake (maggie) compared to a diskWhy?1. Disks are useless when oil/grease gets on them2. Disks get hit sometimes causing time/money to be wasted getting a true disk again3. Maggies make a better noise 4. Less flex5. Easier to setupAnd 6. To me it feels like maggies give a quicker, sharper more powerful response I recommend you keep the maggieBut in the end it is up to you
Alex Dark
Basically what ravemonkey said.....discs do have more modulation and rim brakes are affected by wheel buckling...but is still prefer my 12 year old raceline with koolstops to any other brake ( apart from when it gets wet! )
