psycholist
Fit as good a cable as possible and trials specific brake pads (Something to match your rim finish) and it'll be perfect.
Decade Ago
I have an Avid ultimate on the rear of my Czar. Great brake so far using Coust pads from Heatsink. The hold is awesome.
strat-trials
The old Avid Arch rivals used to rattle alot where the arch joins the brake. I know they may have sealed bearings but at the end of the day you want the stiffest arms possible. For how cheap they are on CRC an SD7 is pretty good (£16.99). Or the SL's are lighter by 2 grams than an ultimate at £30 and then there is also the SD Ti's that only cost £24.99. Personally an SD7 will do you fine.PS, I run an ultimate on the rear (lever and arms) with a linear slic cable and it is spot on. Much nicer than a magura with plenty of hold with plaz crv pads. The best thing is the spring tension can be set real low and cuts down on arm pump loads. Oh and i run it on an 06 Ashton without a booster and find there is minimal flex. CurtisRider
arch rivals and ultimates are two different types of veethe arch rival has an integrated booster, and is a toss brake, don't botherthe ultimate has conventional style arms, but cnc'd, and with sealed cartridge bearings-superb brakes, i've had several now EDIT i stand corrected after some research, there is also a arch rival with sealed bearings...but you still want a regular ultimate either way! Tomm
Yep, what everyone has already said. The Arch Rivals start off good, then the linkage goes wobbly and they lose power. SD7s are better.
Zordon
the arch rival has an integrated booster, and is a toss brake, don't botherIt's not a booster, it's a parallel push mechanism.
grant wildman
It's not a booster, it's a parallel push mechanism.tip top, exactly rite! just like the linkage arms on a shimano xtr or xt , makes the pads move square to the rim.Mine was fine , though not gona lie some times did rattle , depends if your gona use it front or rear???
