It depends on your insurer too, Ok faster cars will always cost more, but if you actually have a decent car the chances are you'll look after it more than some old banger, and some insurance companies do recognise this.

yea, i found that, my bmw, unmodified, would come in at £800 a year, a diesel merc worth 8 times as much, producing 1.5x the power, comes in at £826.

Here's a question to the anti-alloy brigade...

Do you consider a Mk3 Polo GT slammed on 13" ATS Classics as chavvy as a Corsa with 18" Chrome Wolfrace's?

Car modification doesn't mean a Corsa with blue neons and stupidly big wheels, some people modify cars with taste...

Personal taste has a lot to answer for these days...

At the end of the day I couldn't care less what someone does to their car, but modifying it for reasons other than your own personal satisfaction is pointless imo.
