JonMack
Cool, and again from Wiki...It is also rumoured that Ben is The Stig on BBC TV's Top Gear. The Health & Safety Executive report into Richard Hammond's Vampire dragster crash in September 2006 records that Collins "worked closely with Top Gear as a high performance driver and consultant".[1] Footage that shows rare occasions on which The Stig speaks infront of a camera has also been compared to footage of Ben Collins himself talking, the voices seem to match up, although nobody can be completely certain as the voice of The Stig is slightly disguised under his crash helmet. Haz
He has never spoken on TV, so I asume that's coming from camera crew?
JonMack
I assume so, as no one has heard him talking on the show.

Tomm
Yeah I always wondered how many people must know the identity of the Stig. I mean, surely all the celebs for "star in a reasonably priced car" must have spoken to him face-to-face? I'm surprised they've managed to keep it a secret for so long. If it IS this Ben Collins guy, does that mean they need to get a new one now he's no longer anonymous? And what colour would he be?! P.S. Anyone even seen the film Death Race 2000? There's a driver who only wears black in that, and when he dies in a huge accident, they just replace him. I reckon that must be where top gear got the idea. 011001000110010101110010
Ben collins drove an aygo in the football game they played
James
Thats kind of ruined 'the stig' for me, I preferred it when I actually thought he was some kind of extra terrestrial, not some dude with a goofy voice. Oh well. Edited January 8, 2008 by James
trials_pimp
From what ive been told there is no 1 Stig. The Stig is many people, the criteria needed is to post consecutive lap times under 1.44This helps the stigs ID stay hidden, as anyone accused of being him can be shown with another stig to get the heat off.If im not wrong the whole football Aygo team where sitgs.2 F1 drivers were caught on the Payrole for BBC top gear for "performance driving"

Tomm
Maybe, but the first stig (the black one) was just one guy - Perry McCarthy.

Rich Pearson
Theres a whole load of stuff about the Stig on Wikipedia. I seem to remember them saying that sometimes the Stig was an R&D driver for a particular company (I'm pretty sure that when Koenisegg and Bugatti lent their cars to topgear it was some of their production drivers in them masquerading as the stig, and also the snow-mobile jump done in the winter olympics episode was a finish snow-mobile champion, also masquerading as the stig). The StigRich

F-Stop Junkie
Ben Collins is the normal Stig (which would explain why the Ascari got such a good laptime, as he campaigns one in British GT, also why he was used to doing endurance racing for the Britcar 24hr) as he used to do stuff himself - like the parachutist landing in the open top Merc, or racing against the mountain boarder in a Bowler. However, as someone said, the stig does vary. African Stig was clearly not Ben Collins. Julian Bailey (Ex-F1 and Toyota BTCC driver) has stood in before. Even Damon Hill (rumour has it) put down the Stig's Simpson lid when they needed a guest at short notice as he was around from Stigging duties.Heikki Kovalinen was the Stig when the Renault F1 car was first featured and did a 59 second lap, the owner of the Maserati MC12 was the Stig when that did a lap... How come I knew all that off the top of my head? I should get out more...
