Hey dudes,

I got my second installment of my loan today (£££s B)), but I was trying to find out when we get the next batch. Tried logging on to the student loans site, but it's actually a bag of wank, so I can't.

Anyone gonna drop the knowledge bomb?

I expected there to be a little variation, but everyone I've spoken to had their loan the same time as me last September and today, so I thought someone should be able to give a rough guide. Easter's on the 23rd March this year, (1 day later than it's earliest possible date. Thank you, Google...) so I guess early April, maybe. I was expecting mid-May, so that's a result...

Just saw Jon's post. Yeah, I expected May1st, works out OK for me 'cos atm, my rent goes in on the 19th of the month.

For two and a half years my money has come in every time on the first calender day of term back after each holiday. That is apart from when I forgot to enrol after summer and went two weeks with no money, ah fun times.

Sounds like it.

I'm going to celebrate my potentially shitty coursework results by lashing out some money on some new clothes, which is basically exactly what I did this time 1 year ago. Wearing the t-shirt I bought then, now, in fact...

After splashing £260 on rent I've just bought a new CK hubshell, frame comes next, and a new disc, then you will all start to see my new project. Brilliant.

Then of course I need a new camera bag, more lenses for my Bronica, more clothes, etc. etc. etc.

Then the 1st will roll around and I'll have no money for rent, w00t!!

£1720 went out of my current account into my savings account to cover rent for the next 4 months, so I've got me about £600 from the loan to play with. Got other money too so it won't be too bad, but yeah, Barca trip = on the cards...

All in all this year, with loans/grants/bursaries i'll have gotten £7000 I think. Apparently the bursary is now £2000 instead of £1000, which is some pretty tasty win. I got my second installment yesterday, so I boomed straight up to tarty for a new frame :)

I'm probably gonna regret that...

lol

Bursaries are so shit. According to them my parents are supposed to give me £1600 every year. That's a joke, well to them anyway haha :(

Gunna go see if my loan is in later, and if Halfords have paid me. Should be a few pennies :)

Yeah. I applied for a Bursary and it suggested that my parents ought to be giving me £6k per year. Therefore they weren't going to give me any money. Er...

My mum very generously paid for my first two months of rent as my loan hadn't come through, and at some point i'm going to be returning the money to them. Never ask my parents for anything and usually refuse to take money from them as i havn't earnt it, but sometimes if they come over they'll try and sneak a £20 into my draw or something for me to find once they've gone.

But as for them giving me money over the year? Well, i don't get any and i wouldn't want them to. I occasionally get a new jumper if mums been out shopping and shes just recently very kindly offered to pay for my contact lenses which is great! But i don't know why the government EXPECTS parents to be giving their kids this much money. Its just retarded, we don't all start off like paris hilton, most have a bit more dignity and respect.

Well, I can kinda see the point, and it's means-tested, so I guess the government have calculated that my Mum can afford to give me some dollah. My parents almost cover my rent which is very useful (I'd have to get a huge loan otherwise), and I don't feel too bad about it because if I was at home I'd be costing them food money, bills etc. Then I work (occasionally) and use my loan for food/bills/whatever. I suppose if I was working full-time and paying my own rent, that would be the best of both. But meh, I guess if my parents couldn't afford it, they wouldn't have offered to pay. But I think most people do get a certain amount of help from their parents. £6000/year - possibly not!

I think your quite lucky thne. My money plan for this term is student loan of £1250 something, to cover 3 months rent of £338 and any food, going out, course materials etc. The next one comes in after easter and thats the same. In the meantime i have to be finding myself a job pronto so i can pay the rest of the rent during the summer months.

  • 2 months later...

Cool. Just got in contact with a friend of mine who said he was getting his on April 7th, and we're from the same LEA, started our degrees at the same time, etc.

The result of this is massive win, because I thought it was May we were getting the next money I have an extra £430 (One month's rent) kicking around now 'cos I thought I'd need it. Fortunately, I don't, so that's going directly to the "Mark isn't going to work this summer" fund.
